Just checked, you are definitely shown as a member on the page as far as I can tell (I'm fairly new to running a group properly I'm afraid!). Please feel free to submit any deviations/faves you feel are relevant - we'd love to see a pic of your TWH! Thanks for joining!

I've not really got around to revamping the group since it changed from the old style clubs to dA's new 'group' system, you should be able to submit like with most groups now I think When I get time I will try to take better care of the group hopefully!!

How do you join? I think this is a great cause and I'd love to join. I love horses in general, but gaited horses are the best. TWHs are my favorites, and it hurts to hear that they are being abused.

I've worked with Rocky/Kentucky mountain horses, all whom are naturally gaited. They're something else, that's for sure. Gaiting can be pretty fun, its very nice for trail rides.

Naturally-Gaited In reply to xgoldenmoonx [2008-02-29 20:17:13 +0000 UTC]

Sounds like an amazing experience! Due to the lack of them here in england, I've never had a chance to ride one, although someone I know owns what I beleive is a hackney x, and I do think that gaited horses look extremely comfortable!

xgoldenmoonx In reply to Naturally-Gaited [2008-02-29 21:09:17 +0000 UTC]

they are pretty comfortable. Until they're fully broke, its takes effort so make them stay in gait. My trainer got to ride/see some of the top ranked Rockies in the country and it takes no effort with them.

SaddleSeatClub [2008-02-02 01:09:31 +0000 UTC]

As a saddl eseat rider I do not agree with some of your club statements. I know there are horrible people and trainers in the world, some over due aids and equipment and do harm horses and are very misguided individuals.

However, many do not. The high stepping gait of saddlebreds and morgans to name a few is completely natural and can be seen in foals trotting next to their dams. [link] Also, I know that light aids are not harmful, even long term, to horses. I believe in what this club stands for as some trainers hurt their horses in their zeal for the win, however I feel that you journal gives the impression ALL high-stepping is bad and that's just not true.

DancesWithHorses In reply to SaddleSeatClub [2008-02-07 19:52:59 +0000 UTC]

I didn't get that out of the journal entry at all. I just reread it, and it still reads to me as if it is against chains, heavy pads, soring and so on. It clearly states in the opening that "We are here to support Gaited Breeds being ridden and trained naturally, without aids such as chains and pads that are used to excentuate their movements", which I support wholeheartedly. I've butted heads over the use of "light aids" but it will be a cold day in hell before anyone can ever convince me that chains are proper for a horse's fetlock, no matter how light.

The natural gaits are beautiful, and animated, without them. I know the club apologized - but I think you read the opening sentence without reading the whole journal and jumped to some incorrect conclusions.

SaddleSeatClub In reply to DancesWithHorses [2008-02-08 00:39:03 +0000 UTC]

You see, I AGREE with the use of aids such as chains and pads and other aids (with the exception of the HORRID soaring that I am against.) They are just muscle builders. However, I will not argue with you.

I don't like you.

I'm the one you argued with before (check who the founder of this club is) and I found you rude.
Please don't message me again.

DancesWithHorses In reply to SaddleSeatClub [2008-02-08 02:27:15 +0000 UTC]

That's funny, I thought exactly the same of you. If you're posting your opinions on another club's web site, you need to be prepared to hear from people who think the pads and chains are a terrible thing.

Naturally-Gaited In reply to SaddleSeatClub [2008-02-05 21:14:39 +0000 UTC]

We DO NOT think that all riders treat their horses in the manners we strongly fight against, as Im sure you realise. I, as a horse owner and rider for nearly 10 years, have known many other horse owners, trainers and riders who clearly do not treat their horses badly, and to suggest they did would surely imply that I did.
As stated in the journal, we don't wish people to think all horses trained to move more extravegantly are cruely treated, as Im sure anybody who has ridden or been around horses for a short ammount of time would realise they are not. I beleive that most horses have to be trained to a degree to move totally correctly, as a club we just dissaprove of those people who have to take it beyond the horses natural capabilities and push them into unnatural movements.
The journal is written simply to raise awareness of the side we are aiming to prevent. It is presumed that most people will be able to realise that there are good people out there too (seeing as people joining the club, I presume, would be against the use of harsh methods themselves) and so, to a degree I have relied on people's common sense, prehaps not the wisest of all my ideas, but there you go. I leave it for people to make there own decisions - I havent said that ALL people are bad, or all are good, or anything for certain. Simply that cruelty cannot be tolerated.

I understand, and I thank you for replying to my comment. I tend to get overzealous and sensitive about the issue as SO many horse books (at least those I've been exposed to) portray saddle seat in a, if no negative, then not a positive light based on mis-information.

I really support what your club stands for ^-^

DancesWithHorses In reply to SaddleSeatClub [2008-02-07 20:00:20 +0000 UTC]

I would agree with this statement. I get the look a lot when I tell people here in MN that I have a Tennesee Walker. The breed is associated with big lick (plantation) horses, no matter how you ride or train yours. It's a bad, bad image.

Naturally-Gaited In reply to SaddleSeatClub [2008-02-07 19:34:53 +0000 UTC]

I must say I have not read many of them sort of book, as gaited horses have not yet hit off here in the UK the same as America yet, so many of our books still hold very little information about the showing and training of them. Most of what I have learnt, I have gained from friends on here, the internet and what I have picked up during many years around horses. I really only run the club on behalf of a friend, as she does not have time to answer messages and such, so I have offered to do so for her, so that the word against the bad happenings does get spread, so that hopefully one day, everything to do with Gaited Horses will be good :0 Well - thats the hope

Thank you!
