Oh, thanks for the heads-up! Somehow I missed this, and the site seems to be gone now, alas.

sorry it's taken so long for me to get by here to thank you for
your kind words and fave on my latest ink spill. heh.
whew. you're into creating some trippy visuals as well i see.
i really didn't come here to pimp anything,...but if you ever
want to play around with something similar to evolving,...
i'm part of a stock account that has one or two pieces in it
that were creating the same way. i bet you could do some really
wild stuff with it.
anyway,...that was just a thought.
thanks again!

Hm, you mean resurgere? Thanks for the pointer! I hadn't come across it before. While I don't have the technical chops to do anything with the stock, I'm going to enjoy seeing what else comes out there.

Your style is very particular, the program you created seems very interesting. The way your art is equally technical and emotionnal impresses me!!

Hey, thanks a lot. I was surprised too at the variety of stuff coming out of this program -- when you use it you don't have very much control over the results. Hopefully someday there'll be a fancier version worth releasing for other people to play with.

oh sheesh did i write that *shakes his head* sorry I was probably realy tired that day. well i like your work. its intruiging, yet simple. ok, theres a decent understandable comment.

Heh. It's nice of you to say so, either way. I do try to select simple designs, because it's so easy with computers to make incredibly complicated ones. Well, and also because this program's pretty limited.

You're welcome -- it reminds me a bit of some Zen ink paintings I've seen in books. Funnily enough the previous entry in my favorites was super-dark with bits of white -- I suppose the next favorite will have to be a garish colorfest.

So... tell us more about your app! It looks like you're having fun with it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

djb In reply to babydolltx [2004-02-07 12:07:59 +0000 UTC]

Sure -- the basic idea is it starts by generating some images at random, and you pick the one you like best. Then it makes random variations on that, and you just repeat until you get a result worth saving. To the extent this works, it lets people who "know what they like" make art without any technical skills (I can sort of draw but I'm mainly a programmer -- I'd love to get more feedback on what works and what doesn't, being pretty new at this 'art' stuff).

Of course, most of the images it produces are crap and I wouldn't want to inflict the program itself on the world, at least as it is now. You can read about the original program I'm imitating here . Probably the next thing to do with it is to give more direct control over the results so you can tweak things without depending on random variations coming up right.
