A Silver Mt. Zion is my favorite band to listen to when I am laying around in the desert at night. They take me to a weird place. I did see Explosions in the Sky play.
The technical definition of macro photography is that the image on the negative is the same size as the object photographed. Recently, other definitions have been developed. What it really comes down to is high magnifaction phogotraphy; using long focal length lenses to focus on close objects, maybe inches to a foot away. I consider any full frame image of a very small thing to be macro photography. There are special lenses that can focus very close and give very high magnification on the order of 1:1 to even 5:1 image size to object size ratio.
My Canon 24-70 mm F2.8L can focus pretty close, and might technically take macro photos. Getting really into it requires purchasing specialized equipment. Macro photographers are usually mostly into just that.
[link] seems like an alright article, although it might not be entirly true.

I have a few Sigur Ros albums, but I never really got into them. It would be interesting to see them play though, you will have an awesome time. Explosions in the Sky was here a few months ago. Do you like Godspeed You! Black Emperor?

School can be quite time consuming.
My questions about seasons were an attempt to grasp the meaning of the words, like whether the entire world was enveloped by summer simultaniously but the word ment cold for those in the southern hemisphere. My brain is in a knot again already.
The book sounds like a good investment of time. If something you read is not totally clear to you, feel free to ask questions of me.
Having a shorter focal length lens will create photos more similar to what you see naturally while walking around. The field of vision of the human eye is supposedly similar to a 35 mm (22 mm lens on the rebel with the 1.6 factor) focal length lens. Narrower lenses would be similar to looking at only one thing while disregarding its surroundings. What you have now would be most similar to walking around with binoculars on at all times.
I am glad you enjoy the new posts, submitting clouds made me think of you. Currently I am in Texas and only have dialup, a review of your new posts will have to wait until I have a better connection.

A good critique elucidates the strong points and shortcomings of an image. This is useful because it helps the photographer to discover what to look for in a good photo. Since you are somewhat new, I try to explain some camera stuff also. I have never taken an art class, but real artists are some of my favorite people.
Those links are to my old profile, which is no longer in use. At some point I cleaned it out and started fresh, so it is older than the oldest image. Some of my first images from the 30D are posted also. This profile was mostly created as a place to post MX photos for people I know personally. Meeting interesting people on deviant art has become more difficult these days.
Today, I read 109 degrees farenheit on a thermometer. It has always fascinated me that it is winter somewhere in the world when it is hot, and summer when it is cold and dark.
On a more technical note, the EOS-400D is a fine body. 75-300 mm is a very zoomed in lens, which is great for portraits, wildlife, or anything with a very specific subject. Landscapes will be very challenging for you though. Someday a wider angle would be a good buy, if there is not one hiding out in the camera bag. The Canon 50mm f/1.8 comes to mind [link] For $90 it has image quality which rivals my lenses. It is prime (meaning a single focal length) which is a downside of sorts. Many new photographers like to shoot prime, it is less stressful or something.
The f number of a lens is simply the minimum f-stop, and is usually given following the focal length range. Low f-stop values allow more light into the camera at the expense of a narrower depth of focus. At f1.8 it would be easy to get an image like the fairy grass, and you could use faster exposures in darker settings. All lenses go up to large f-stops, far beyond what is practical, so it is not really worth thinking about. [link] is very worth skimming.
You should take more photos.

Good, you have found the camera cable.
Which lenses do you own for the EOS 400d?
I really like the clouds that seem to grace your skies, perhaps it is time to work some landscape into your sky-scapes.
The weather is cold in Australia?

The CRF250r is a little underpowered for putting around on trails. I have only ridden a two stroke bike once. The flat power band of the four stroke is much better for my skil level . I found the 2006 CRF-r bikes that I rode to have a lighter feel than the 2003 crf450r I rode.
The telephoto lens gets the magezine shots for the most part. Fisheye lenses are just fun in general, you should post some of your work.

Over-exposure is a bitch. I forgot to tell you that when shooting raw you can adjust the exposure by at least a stop in either direction during post-processing.
If I know the rider I will mention them, otherwise I really cant. There is a message board that MXers in AZ read which I will link to my website from after a shoot. Honestly I mostly go to take pictures of my friend who races. I think the track is kind of scary, but I like to ride trails in the desert. The 2006 crf250r is what I like to ride.
Somehow I convinced the track manager at PMP to let me into the middle, that really gave my photography a jump start. The foot long, white 70-200mm f2.8 lens probably helped. You can probably do the same though.
What do you ride?

Hey glad you like the MX images. I see motocross is one of your interests. If you have any photography questions on the topic feel free to ask. Do you know any riders at the track?
