Hey, Tim has rendered his verdict!

I think this is simply a very odd kind of catfish. Incidentally, catfish are related to carp, and sturgeon are very primitive bony fish, related to other things like bowfins and paddlefish.

Now you have my opinion, I agree that it is a very odd catfish.

fractalxavier91 In reply to thomastapir [2014-04-08 18:07:17 +0000 UTC]

I thought it must be. It just didn't jive with my understanding of sturgeon.

I want to apologize if I was too annoying and dogged about it. It's a bit of a character flaw, you could say, of mine. When I'm convinced I'm right about something I will often pursue my argument until the other person gets fed up with me or concedes. I try to keep it under control but sometimes I can't stop myself.

Thanks! It was alright. I'm not one for big parties so we just went to a local Shari's and had dinner. And got one of their delicious pies.

thomastapir In reply to fractalxavier91 [2013-08-13 19:30:58 +0000 UTC]

Oh, that sounds pretty good! Β You know, I went to a Shari's last year for the first time in probably 10 years and it was a lot better than I remember it being...Seemed like they had put some effort into re-vamping the menu.

What kind of pie did you get? Β Did you get any birthday presents?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

fractalxavier91 In reply to thomastapir [2013-08-14 04:20:17 +0000 UTC]

I believe it was a chocolate cream pie. It was very good. I got some presents of a sort. Mostly in the form of money or in-game purchasable currency from some friends for an online game I've been playing quite a bit. It's called Warframe. The art style for most of the titular suits has a rather organic aesthetic.

Those are pretty cool! Β The suits look (to me) like a cross between Gasium body armor appleseedd6.tripod.com/Images/… and Kikaider or Guyver designs. (I'm sure more contemporary reference points would be HALO or something, but I'm pretty out of the loop in that regard. Β : p )

During one of the dev team's every-other-weekly livestream sitdowns when they had their art director on they mentioned the EVAs from Evangelion as an inspiration. And I think they may have mentioned Guyver too. I'd have to go back and watch the recording to know for sure (which I just might do, but not tonight). The devs for this game are great about keeping the community in the loop and responding to concerns, by the way. I wish more developers would follow suit.

I wouldn't know about Halo because I've never played any of that series. : P

Also, the link to the Gasium armor you provided just takes me to a small "image hosted by Tripod" image.

It seems like creators are much more accessible to, and interactive with, their fans and audience nowadays, which is cool to see. Β One of the positive and democratizing aspects of the internet, I guess.

Yeah, I can see all those influences in there! Β Also reminds me, you might like this guy:

You should be able to blow up the thumbnail in preview.

Just very form-fitting body armor, lightly power-assisted, distinctly molded to the anatomical contours of the body. Β It's what I ideally pictured for the Deathworlders' body armor, though there's no such description in the books...I think Shirow was just such a dramatic influence on me at such an impressionable age that my imagination tends to see the world in "Shirow colors," for lack of a better term!

Some of them are, at least. Mostly it's the Indie developers who are like that, from what I've seen. The larger companies, less so. Valve is an exception to that, though. And maybe Nintendo, too. They seem to be pretty in touch with their community. Which is good, because if you alienate your playerbase, well then...

It seems to me that Indie developers and smaller companies (that don't quite fall under "Indie") are the ones that keep in touch with their customers, in general. This is all just my observation at the moment, which could be wrong (and very well might be).
