Where do you live in Colorado? I'm living in Eagle-Vail and I'm getting ready to bring my new horse out here.

Lucky. Vail is soo pretty. I have a few photos from there that I need to upload . I live in Parker. It's like 26 miles from Denver. What kind of horse and where from?

I'm from Maine, a friend just gave me a thoroughbred that she couldn't keep anymore. He's an ex polo pony and a really promising eventer. Have you got one of your own?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AQHRider91 In reply to jltrafton [2009-11-20 05:04:12 +0000 UTC]

Nice I have 4 actually.

My grey Quarter Horse is 25 now I've had him for going on ten years He's the best horse I could have asked for. Not my first horse but the first one I could really do a lot with lol.

I have a bay 5 year old gelding I'm working on finishing up training on. He's looking like a good prospect for ranch horse versatility and other cattle work ( which will be a first for me lol) He's coming with me to Wyoming for college in August.

The other 2 belong to my mom. A Quarter horse pony cross who is impossible to keep at a healthy weight lol he is so wide it's like riding a barrel.

And a paint ( possibly crossed with some sort of gaited horse, Tennessee Walker maybe from the way he looks ) that can open any gait, untie nearly any knot and we're praying doesn't learn how to unbuckle the dog collars that we keep on each of the gates to keep him in.

Hey, no problem. Where abouts in Germany? I was living near Ulm last year... and I was just sitting here missing it very much.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

d0nr0n In reply to jltrafton [2009-06-16 07:59:20 +0000 UTC]

near cologne! It`s far away from Ulm!
Why have you been in germany?! And why did you have to leave it?!
So.....vielleicht verstehst du ja etwas deutsch...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jltrafton In reply to d0nr0n [2009-06-16 08:28:15 +0000 UTC]

oh dear, unfortunately I didn't learn much German. I was training horses, I had no time to take any courses, and the job was so fast paced that it was easier for my boss and I to speak english. I was able to get by in restaurants and shops where not many understood english. I left because my boyfriend came back from overseas (army) and I wanted to be with him. I'm going back this fall though, to see friends and get out of the US for a while (Frankfurt, Augsburg, Munich). I feel like I should have been born German sometimes, I had a hard time adjusting to the US after .

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

d0nr0n In reply to jltrafton [2009-06-16 09:33:29 +0000 UTC]

oh like you already noticed, my english is bad, too! Sometimes I just don`t even get the simplest words. So I hope you understand me
Is it your job to work with horses? Do you own a horse? I live on a farm in Germany, but without farming. My neighboors have 4 horses. The really need to be trained
It`s a pity that the people in the restaurants didn`t understand you, but it`s the germany mindset. We think, they people want something from us, so they could try to speak our language. But if we go to Netherlands we expect that they understand us!
You really should visit Cologne and Berlin. Maybe Hamburg. But everyone how went to cologne says: I`ve never met such open hearted and nice people

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jltrafton In reply to d0nr0n [2009-06-16 09:50:16 +0000 UTC]

oh, everyone in germany was so nice! even the people in restaurants tried as much as they could. we spoke in broken english/german and whatever other languages we could find common words in (french, spanish, latin). I went to an italian place owned by Croatians a lot who spoke strange german and maybe 5 words of english. it's really funny to listen to us talk . I didn't find any germans who expected me to speak german. I would have loved to go to Cologne and Hamburg, but I didn't have the time unfortunately. Berlin was amazing.. part of my heart stayed in that city.
I'll come train those horses! Any reason to come back to DE. I have a horse in the US, but someone else is using him now. I live close to the city and can't have horses here.
And your english is fine, I can understand perfectly. Talk about not understanding simple words... doch... I could never quite understand that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

d0nr0n In reply to jltrafton [2009-06-16 10:23:17 +0000 UTC]

I never mind about that word: doch! The more I say that it sounds funny for me, too!
How would i translate "doch". Hmmmm it`s about the situation.
What do you say if someone says: The sky isn`t blue! We say: Doch, ist er! I think you would say: yes he is. But yes isn`t the translation......oh hard
great example

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jltrafton In reply to d0nr0n [2009-06-16 20:23:51 +0000 UTC]

hehe, I'm starting to understand it after months of reading about german grammar, etc. I would have a hard time using it in normal speech. Someday I will understand it all.
So if you disagree with someone (he thinks no, you think yes), you could use doch in that situation? That's sort of what I'm understanding. I think I'm getting closer... aber danke fΓΌr die Hilfe. I can definitely use all I can get.

ohhhh ...aber danke fΓΌr die Hilfe....not bad, really good!
Your example is really easy and absolutly right!
When do you come back to germany?!

How are things in Germany? There was crazy weather last spring, is it the same this year?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

d0nr0n In reply to jltrafton [2009-06-18 08:42:56 +0000 UTC]

It`s june and we wait for the sun! 1 day in the hole week nice weather, everybody is outside, everyone makes BBQ, and the next day, rain rain rain rain....germany

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jltrafton In reply to d0nr0n [2009-06-22 21:38:25 +0000 UTC]

doesn't Kartoffel mean potato? hehe, we're having that weather here in Seattle too. No bbq's here... the ones in Germany were always better anyway.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

d0nr0n In reply to jltrafton [2009-06-23 07:56:55 +0000 UTC]

Kartoffel means potato
For sure? BBQ here is better than in USA? Unbelievable! why?!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jltrafton In reply to d0nr0n [2009-06-23 23:58:02 +0000 UTC]

I always had a lot more fun at bbq's in DE than in the US. I'm not really sure exactly why... just a lot better people, my German friends are a lot of fun.

potato weather . german phrases make me laugh.
