Awesome gallery here You like Stephen Gammell, too? I myself am practicing with graphite pencils (and bought some vine charcoal) to emulate his style as well

Thanks, and yes! I have tried mixing many different mediums, from charcoal to pen, alll sorts of graphite and even milk pens, but honestly, I think the best is just a plane old mechanical pencil. The real magic comes from how you use it. The only way to learn is to practice!

Do you sell any of your works? I would like to purchase some if possible.

I've never sold originals before, but I do have these and might sell them for the right price. I'm guessing their probably more valuable to me than you though. Are you interested in prints?

TH3J4CK4L [2014-09-01 16:47:34 +0000 UTC]
Are these done completely by hand or are sketched then run through computer tools?

khantheripper In reply to TH3J4CK4L [2014-09-03 20:02:18 +0000 UTC]
For the most part they are completely hand-sketched. There are a few though that had some very simple enhancements using the Gimp (like "Unearthed" which had a solid black and a solid white gradient applied)

They're pretty impressive for hand sketched I always loved Gammells work and yours is pretty spot on. Like a frankenstein Steadman/Pollack nightmare. Gimp isn't too bad for tacking on some extra effects or added additonal splatters or grime to photos that's why I at first thought they were a a hybrid piece of art

Thanks! I got most of my stylistic ideas from a series of children's books called "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" illustrated by Stephen Gammell. You should check them out!

I just absolutely adore your work. I grew with Stephen Gammell and the scary story books and loved the style. You sir, embody it perfectly, while still being original at the same time. That sir, is what make it genius.

Hah, that's funny, because I wouldn't I drew them out of a fascination with the style, but when it comes to decorating my home, I go in nearly the complete opposite direction. I'm glad you like them though!

...man, why are there so many artistic girls who are fascinated with the macabre, who play video games, and who listen to metal on DA and never on POF!

I am glad that you like my style so much! My work is not highly popular; it is meant for a select few like yourself who happen to be fascinated with that sort of look.

It should be more popular. It's so different and interesting. It's delicate, yet brutal at the same time, you know?

Thanks. That is always a delight to hear. I have actually had a nuber of personal attacks against me by people who want to believe that one is a bad person if they make disturbing art. I am so glad that there are people like you who enjoy it!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
TwistedKnightmare In reply to khantheripper [2009-09-02 20:03:30 +0000 UTC]
Disturbing art (and books) is what I live for!
The attacks are somewhat annoying, I get them too for the shit that I write. But for the most part I like them. You should too, it means that you're doing something right. But then again I only had these attacks over the internet. I hope you don't get any in real life. Most real life attacks are NOT fun at all.
But yeah, I really love your work. I'll be sure to tell my friends about you. I'm sure they'll love your work as much as I do.

Unfortunately, I was talking about people in person. Actually, people online don't seem to bother saying anything about my work if they don't like it. I am honored that you would tell your friends about me, Jesse, as I really don't have a whole lot of fans, but I really value each one . Perhaps I will some day though.
