i took my first art class since becoming a teenager in my senior year of high school, and only by skipping my free period to sneak into my friends class. the art teacher got me hooked on clay modeling, specifically busts of people. the very next time i got a chance to sculpt was 2 years after, with a pumpkin. i saw scott cummins' work on PumpkinGutter.com and was inspired by what you can do with pumpkin (i've always loved jack o' lanterns). my clay modelling experience, limited as it was, transferred directly to carving -- the Harry Potter one was the very first 3D sculpt attempt and it came out better than i expected! that's my story in a nutshell

Wow who would have thought that skipping school could potentially get you are career ;D kinda ironic! That harry potter one was stunning, I thought it was the carving which look most like the original character. It was amazing. So whats the plan now? Pursue the carving career and become an artist, or..?

in terms of art, i may start out as a freelance artist and collaborate with my friend's studio. mostly graphic design. today, i displayed my pumpkins as part of a neighborhood halloween fair in a historic and upscale part of boston called beacon hill; people loved it and i may get commissions next time. at the moment, my parents' business helps sponsor my pumpkin fetish

hey sorry for the late reply - thanks for your comment! I use...whatever I can get, really, just whatever kind of graphite pencils they happen to sell in the art store...haha not very helpful know... quality usually correlates with price so I guess that's a good guide haha
