Oh hey, you've got a DA now. I was curious what happened to your guys' card game, but looks like you've been busy.
(This is Josquin and my decade-old DA.)

Yo!
How's it been? Long story short, funding ran out and we had to close production. Been looking over a lot of the stuff and I wish we could've completed it. I've still been talking to Andrei to see if he wants to finish it with 2-3 characters.
But yeah, been keeping myself busy with freelance stuff. I actually started to get more active on DA just cause it was finding me work.
You still at CEL? The only people I see from the earlier classes is Chris and Linda.

NaokoYiran In reply to nekomimipunks [2014-10-17 09:32:51 +0000 UTC]
Getting games funded these days sounds tough with how many are out there. So not too surprising that it didn't pull through, but would've been neat to see it do so.
I wouldn't have expected DA to be a big place for work compared to a other sites like ConceptArt.org, except for commissions. Shows what I know, heh.
I'm still at CEL, and by that I mean I'm still waiting for Animation level III. My class disintegrated and they haven't been able to retain enough new students past level II. Been trying to complete a degree at the main campus while waiting, but it's drudgery.

nekomimipunks In reply to NaokoYiran [2014-10-17 20:59:25 +0000 UTC]
I see... yeah level III was offered last semester and there was a bum's rush for everyone to take it. Geri was pretty good about making sure anyone who wanted to take it could, even if we didn't have all the pre-reqs for it.Β
There should be a number of people going into level III by next semester so hopefully they'll have it.Β
Yeah for formal jobs conceptart.org has real postings, but deviant art has more traffic and it helps at least let people know you're out there and want to work. I get sooo many more hits on here than I do on my sketch blog haha.

NaokoYiran In reply to nekomimipunks [2014-10-18 05:22:25 +0000 UTC]
I remember your class taking level III while we were taking II. The timing was off by one semester. >_>
And yeah, traditional blogs don't seem to get much attention since everyone's over on Twitter or Tumblr these days. DA does get a good deal of traffic, but it's sorta got a reputation stuck to it of being a teenage art wasteland- which is of course over-exaggerated. (But I joined here and posted terrible art when I was a teenager, heh.)

nekomimipunks In reply to NaokoYiran [2014-10-18 22:37:20 +0000 UTC]
Haha it does. But the fact that you'll get people looking at your stuff is a positive that outweighs any negative stigma that might come from deviant art itself. Looking for freelance work, just showing up to something already puts you ahead of 80% of the pack... and if you stick around, makes you better than 90%.Β
BTW you going to any DreamCRITs events? If you haven't you should really talk to Geri about presenting.
π: 0 β©: 1
NaokoYiran In reply to nekomimipunks [2014-10-19 05:20:21 +0000 UTC]
Hmm... I don't even know when the DreamCRIT events are. I suspect the department website is still in 2012, so I'll have to contact somebody to find out. Also I'm pretty sure I fall into that 80% on account of being a typical self-defeating artistβgotta stop stabbing myself in the feet.

Next one is first week of November, so sign ups should be pretty soon. We usually set up a car pool too.Β
If you got the extra cash, hit up CTN too. Glen Keane is coming back this year, and the daily gesture drawing with Andreas Deja is just amazing too.Β

NaokoYiran In reply to nekomimipunks [2014-10-20 04:47:53 +0000 UTC]
Ergh, only two weeks of crunch time until then. Would you happen to know if they have a schedule/information somewhere? All I'm finding are student portfolios and college pages with general descriptions.
Go all the way to the LA basin and pay to visit the Christian Television Network- When're we getting that bullet train? CTN looks like a big investment to attend, might be better to save that one for later when there's more time to prepare. Now if only I'd actually spent the past 2 years drawing things portfolio-worthy, rather then all these anime ladies with white or gradient backgrounds, heh.
π: 0 β©: 1
nekomimipunks In reply to NaokoYiran [2014-10-20 18:17:51 +0000 UTC]
Well only 2 people from each school is going to be critiqued, so everyone else who's going is there for support and to learn from the tips that those people get.
CTN is great as long as you have some business cards ready, and have a portfolio online somewhere... ie Deviantart haha. But yeah its pretty last minute right now, and the hotel discounts are long gone. But I know what you mean... dammit can't someone pay me a full salary for nothing but anime girls haha.
Oh have you heard of Tree of Savior?

NaokoYiran In reply to nekomimipunks [2014-10-22 22:24:47 +0000 UTC]
I was able to get some info that the next Dreamcrit is on Nov 14 (err...) and the focus is probably storyboarding. If you guys have got extra car space, I wouldn't mind going since I'm sure I can learn some things about storyboarding.
Tree of Savior, the spiritual successor to save us from the terrible excuse of a sequel that RO2 is. Well, still have to wait and see if it gets an English server, but if they do then I'll give it a shot. Not sure how the controls will work out, but the action-y aspect sounds like it might be up your alley.

nekomimipunks In reply to NaokoYiran [2014-10-23 23:24:53 +0000 UTC]
Yeah just contact me when the day is coming up. Hopefully it'll be at Dreamworks, cause the sound when they do the classroom live-cast isn't great.
I love Maggi's artwork, SoundTEMP makes excellent rpg music, handled by the team the brought RO... its like a full dream team. But yeah, its much more action orientated it looks like, and I love how it looks like the skills are built around party play. I'm just dissappointed they were saying no plans for a thief/assassin class.

My mistake, the next Dreamcrit is on the 12th, not the 14th. Hmm... if there's a slot system for limited spaces, how do you guys attend?
π: 0 β©: 1
nekomimipunks In reply to NaokoYiran [2014-10-28 06:07:12 +0000 UTC]
Oh, the slots are for presenters, I haven't actually heard of limited seating for students who are there just for observation.

NaokoYiran In reply to nekomimipunks [2014-10-28 07:18:12 +0000 UTC]
Huh, Ben Ridgeway's e-mail said he had four slots for observers. Maybe he mixed up presenters and observers; I'll have to check with him.

hrm.. never heard of a limit.. haha I've even brought guest.
but anyway, if he's got nothing, I can email you Geri's email. She's never mentioned anything about a limit... if anything she wants as many people as possible to show up.
