Alright, seriously though. We wanted to close down our club, but I kinda wanted to keep it alive (D4sh), seeing as there are tons of clubs for the same thing too. And people already joined. I don't know, but it feels like we're more active then the other one though.

Do you guys know if masks can be created in OC4? Not selection masks unless you can do the same thing as in PS to ctrl click a layer and everything in it gets selected (I've tried that in OC with no luck)
I enjoy OP for both sketching and painting but I really need to be able o pull off masks like I do in PS. Otherwise cleaning up would make the piece take longer to finish.
I ask 'cause I might be interested in joining the group but I can't do 100% of the pic in OC because of it. I always do the final cleaning and editing in PS.

The only way I know is by copying the selection to mask, but I have to admit I am not very knowledgable about the program. As for using PS, that's fine as long as the majority of the work is done in openCanvas. Some things are just easier to do in PS rather than in oC. That's absolutely no problem.

I'm assuming you use the downloaded one now. You should be careful to save your works frequently. oC likes to be crash-happy when it's not bought stuff or something. Just something I red.

Hello. I am on a hunt for information. I've been using Photoshop, but I'd like to know how OC compares with it. I understand some people use OC to do their line work, but I'm not sure what that entails. Is there something about OC that makes it better for this use than Photoshop?

Difficult to compare really. I think OpenCanvas is more a hybrid of Painter/Photoshop, whereas Photoshop is still more a set of tools for retouche/editing work.
I know Photoshop can be used as a paint program, but that's like buying a ferari to do groceries. It's still an awesome programme don't get me wrong, but it truly shines when you manipulate/edit photograpic art/work rather than make illustrations which is where OpenCanvas really can shine. Especially the latest version

I have a -at least for me- important question about oC: every time I tried to use it, when I do certain operations, the software tells me there's a bad data error or something like that, i.e. when I want to create a new level or I want to merge the ones I've already worked on.
Hope you could help me to sort out what's wrong with it...

No, I haven't (mostly because I've been abroad in the meanwhile and far far away from my computer), but I hope to fix it ASAP: it's quite frustrating to star something and then lose everything =_=

Portalgraphics developed a system that tracks illegal serial keys and crashes the program in any version above 3.03. So your solutions are either to get another key, or get another version.

The openCanvas club is open to all ages and all skill levels. The only requirement is that you own and use openCanvas, and create one monthly dedication using openCanvas (any version).

Goal: To bring openCanvas users on deviantART together. Exchange tips and tricks. Organize themed contests.
How to join:
State to ~Myra-chan or ~openCanvas by note only that you would like to join. Put JOIN in the subject line so that there is no doubt you in fact want to join. Some comments people leave are too vague. Also comments on the main page do not show up as new messages so they are easily overlooked. Especially once the club is hitting off and becoming more popular.
When I have added you to the list, I will send you a note back and post a welcome message on your page.
What to do when joined?
Add ~openCanvas to your list. ~Myra-chan is optional.
Put :iconopenCanvas : or ~openCanvas :devopenCanvas : in your journal and signature file. (Without the spaces). Please note that the :iconxxx : doesn't work for non subscribers in the signature file.
Create at least one image a month using openCanvas (any version), and dedicate it to ~openCanvas . Send the url of your dedicated image per note only to ~openCanvas . And that's it.
