Will you guys be supported metallic/roughness based PBR instead of spec/glossy?
It would be a nice option.

MoonGoneDark [2014-04-28 21:55:12 +0000 UTC]
Hi! I've tried uploading two of my models from Blender to Sketchfab. One of them would just show the normal map and not the color map, no matter how I arranged them.
For the other, Sketchfab applied a smoothing modifier to the model, which made it look like a half-melted chocolate bar. Also, one of the textures was misaligned on this model.
I don't understand the causes of this. They were exported from Blender as .obj files and compressed in a zip folder with their PNG texture images. Could you help please?

Hey SuperMoonImagination ! I couldn't find the models you are talking about on your Sketchfab profile (sketchfab.com/SuperMoonImagina⦠.
You can send us your models at support@sketchfab.com so we can test them out and see what went wrong.
Second option would be to use our Blender exporter (available in Blender 2.70 and above) : more details in this tutorial : blog.sketchfab.com/post/829804β¦

Ok thank you for replying. I have sent the model zip files to the email address you gave me, along with a link to dA pages in my gallery that show what they look like in Blender.

Hey Vetci ! No need to be sorry Sketchfab is a web platform for 3D files, you can think of us as a sort of Youtube, but for 3D files. We display 3D graphics in-browser and our viewer is embeddable so you can use it on your website if you're an artist for example. No need to install anything

I just uploaded my first Sketch Fab model and it works!
This is an awesome idea, it means people can see my 3D models as "real" objects instead of boring 2D renders
Thank you for making this awesome feature,Β I'm going to have a lot of fun with it!

You're welcome! We're glad you're happy with this new integration!
Like we always say : "Millions of people make 3D models, why would they share in 2D?"

RazzieMbessai In reply to sketchfab [2014-04-01 18:12:30 +0000 UTC]
Wow, this is so easy!
Unfortunately 3D can be very difficult to do, everything must be exactly right or the model breaks... but Sketch Fab happily accepts my models! I just figured out how to upload a model with textures and it was easier than trying to pass the model between different 3D programs
Is it possible to set Sketch Fab to view a model but not download it? I give away all of my models but sometimes I get a request to build a model and not share it. Sketch Fab would be an awesome way for people to enjoy a model that I made but can't share

sketchfab In reply to RazzieMbessai [2014-04-02 09:41:36 +0000 UTC]
We want it to be as easy as possible to upload content on Sketchfab so we're glad you think that
As for your question : Models aren't downloadable on Sketchfab
Basically after you uploaded a model on our platform you can "share" the link to it => your model will only be viewable by others.
If you've got sensitive models, we encourage you to check out our Pro subscription, which allows you to share models privately (those will not be listed publicly, and can be protected with a password).

Shadow-Corp In reply to sketchfab [2014-04-09 17:28:00 +0000 UTC]
That was something I wanted to know as well.
Also, a question in relation to this: Is Sketchfab a client that is embedded into pages? If so, like Flash, it would be possible to save and maybe even extract data from it since it needs to download something to display.
DoesΒ Sketchfab prevent this kind of data mining from happening?
If I uploaded a file, does the Sketchfab client render from that file directly? Or is there some kind of encoding, a file conversion that takes place before the client renders it? (So if someone were able to extract that data, it would be useless).
Thanks.

Thank you for your explanation, that's just what I wanted to know
Most of the people who request a drawing or model are happy for me to upload it here... but sometimes there are problems with copying and fighting. Now I understand that a model cannot be copied or downloaded from Sketch Fab I can use it to show off private models knowing they are safe
