Hmm... Can I ask for the link to your Myspace page? This way I can listen to some of your music, get inside your head, ya know. lol. You know, you can really get inside someone's head if you find out what music they listen to and the reason why. It's mystifying.

Well, that's more than ironic because my best friend that died was kind of like what your song is describing. I mean, we never got married, but we sure as heck thought we were. And, because we were so on again off again, I never even got to say good bye or set things right with him before he died. Thus, I wake up every morning thinking "today, I'll call him and make things right." Alternately at night, I'm stuck in a world of complete denial that we never had problems to begin with and that he's somehow there beside me. Strange. I mean, I didn't read your lyrics, but your explanation of your song is exactly what it feels like. And, I wrote a song a week before he died about the same sort of topic. The song is called "Demolish" and is pretty ominous, if I say so myself. Ominous yet beautiful.

More than that, I totally know what it's like to immerse yourself in a job of writing and feeling drained, or more so in the same mood of your writing afterward. In fact, I believe that may mean you are not just a good writer, but a great and natural writer. The more crazy you've got that is guided by emotion, unfortunately, means the better your art is released. After all, writing is a compulsion, an obsession, and a disease. For a true writer, it can not be controlled, it can not be stopped, it can only spread thin into ink, onto pages, and be read by the lips of others. Strange how writers have so many friends in their words, yet are very lonely people usually. Usually.

And, yes, I would be glad to let you read portions of my books, but probably not all of them, just because I would rather have it published first. (and have ya buy it--ain't I sweet?) But, I'm sure you are good at reviews, and I would deeply appreciate your reviews. Maybe sometime I'll email you bits and pieces. And, my poetry is made of discarded material, so I wouldn't mind sharing any of that with you. I recently wrote a poem called "Fallen Angel" for someone who lost a sister in death. Seems like you and I work on the same wave length with writing, huh? Once again, convincing me we'd make an awesome team working at Rolling Stone magazine. (still trying for that, by the way!)

I'm kinda at odds about giving out our myspace page, as it's sort of one of those things I'm not too sure if I'm proud of. Not our music in general--but just the demos we have up are early on and not very representational of the end-sound we came up with....not to mention the quality sucked. But either way, I'll let you check it out: myspace.com/severbelt. Obviously, I haven't updated it in over two years (since we disbanded). Feel free to click on the "lyrics" on the music player, as they're all in there. I would really dissuade you from listening to Yahweh, as it was pretty much the first recording we did and was horrible (I contemplate pulling it down a lot). The songs also represent a time at which I believe my voice wasn't quite at the point that I wanted it to be. I learned a lot about singing clearly and in my natural voice since then.

Also, I gotta mention something that totally brightened up my day Saturday: my buddy (who played guitar in the band) called me and told me he just pulled up next to a corvette with two chicks jamming out to our song Tragedian. It definitely put a smile on my face and gave me a little renewal of faith that we didn't suck that bad after all. But I've been reminiscing a lot lately about some of the songs I wrote for the band and how well they turned out. The drummer and guitar player both moved on to new bands and just don't seem as happy in what they're playing as they did when we were playing songs in Severbelt. I look back and really appreciate the subtle complexity of most of the songs and how great we became at achieving dynamics, which a lot of bands struggle with. Sometimes I would really like to jam with the guys again. But more to write and record music, rather than so much for trying to put on a killer live show and get signed. It always seemed like there was so much pressure to be more than we were, instead of just enjoying the music we wrote and played as a whole.

I need to head over to your page and view more of your writing. I feel like I haven't really got a chance to do that. Writing, especially for music, is such as hard thing to do. There's always that challenge to say things in a way nobody else has. I guess that's my beef with bands like Saving Abel and Pop Evil. Horribly predictable lyrics with horribly predictable song structures and just a total lack of creativity. The thing is, bands like them don't deserve to be making it as big as they are. I'm not trying to toot my own horn, but if that's all it takes to write a hit, I could've been on tour with Papa Roach by now too, writing song after song of "get-laid rock", as I like to call it (track after track of topics about chicks, with transparent lyrics and a little bit of dirtiness to them). If you haven't heard either of those bands, go over and listen to their myspace pages. I think you, as a writer, will appreciate what I'm talking about. I just think music deserves more appreciation than using it as a tool to get laid or make a lot of money.

OMG!! I'm sorry. I didn't read your whole comment. I will read it later. I just heard your first song on your myspace page! AND, OMG! You sound just like my brother!! The sound of the guitars, your voice, lyrics, and everything!! I love it. And, I think you are really talented! (huge compliment coming from me, especially since I love the songs my brother has written and performed!) Beautiful!! Okay, well, I have to get going right. Now this is just a quick message. I will read the rest of what you said and reply back later. Sorry about the long waiting in between responses!
