Description
It's official......I have a serious obsession with bright lights and strong blurring! XDDD
Anyway, yes, holy crap, I have been here a full year! I just can't believe it! I mean where did the time go! I'm still having trouble though deciding whether this has been the longest year ever....or the shortest! It honestly felt that way for school to! Ugh, it's a little confusing, haha! >:'D
....I do feel really old though...
But either way...some of my very, very earliest watchers might recognize this drawing, or at least think it seems familiar. Or not, that's completely okay! XD But to get everyone up to speed, I give you....
Behold, my first deviation. ^w^ ....Which looks like crap, heheh!
Honestly, the original Open Air has always been a favorite in my gallery, at least for it's age. Heck, it's still my YouTube banner! XD There is just something about it that...appeals to me so much. I mean obviously it has it's flaws, I was not as well versed in anatomy a year ago, not to mention this was originally just a digital sketch without a background (hence why the shading is off), but...I guess it just meant something special to me. Freedom, I guess. This was, like I said, my first deviation on deviantart, which just so happens to be my first social media site....well, ever. I was beginning to enter a world that I had been siting on the sidelines on for so long, one I had wanted to join for just as long. I saw all the amazing artists here, all the inspirational art, and I told myself that I wanted to be that good some day. I have been drawing for a long time, but I can thank deviantart quite a bit for the push to get better. In my early years of drawing, I wasn't exposed to all that many incredible artists, and I didn't have much guidance up until a couple of years ago. I was just...drawing to draw really. But once I did find those absolutely amazing artists here on dA, I finally had some sort of goal set in mind, and where I wanted my art to take me. It wasn't until last year that I finally had the guts to showcase my art, but eventually I did, and Open Air was the one to start it all.
...Ugh, sorry for going off on a deep tangent there, but I was trying to explain why this piece meant so much to me.
Either way, guys, I hope you like this!

I can't really understand why I'm writing this critique, can't you tell it's awesome by yourself ? e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="

Unfunny jokes aside, let's begin shall-we?
I can hardly see any vision at all in this piece, not that it's a bad thing, if you ask me, no art has to have a vision to be great, the vision also depends on the person who is looking at it. But the main focus that I can see is freedom.
It's hardly original, since a lot of people's art feature dragons flying over grassy plains but what makes it yours is the way that you make it.
I rarely see other pictures that are as well-made as yours. I like mostly everything, from the background to the light and the lens flare. What I like the most is the impeccable attention to detail, the wings, the markings, the slight glow in the eyes to the tip of the tail. It's all so well made.
When I look at this, I feel like he's free, there seems to be nothing that can stop him, I also feel some sort of joy, since he looks really happy that he's out there. I also feel like I'd really love to be where he is in this very moment. Flying free, without a care in the world.
Well, I guess that's pretty much it, I hope everyone thinks it's fair, because I do my best to look at the art and see what it's worth in terms of quality, vision, originality and impact.
Thank you all for checking this out! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="

Well, I can tell you to never use an excess of lens flairs to the point where you can't see your characters anymore. XD But yeah, if you ever need any pointers in your work, feel free to send it over to me and I can give a brief critique, time permitting on my end of course. ^^ Most of what DFA was preaching though will help you greatly, especially where you're thinking of going, so hold on to all of that stuff!!

I loved that class too. X) Actually, I think I loved all the classes (except for Form and Space, but that was mainly just because me and the teacher weren't always on the same page. Drawing still lifes is fine).
I think Photoshop is only Adobe. ^w^ Unless you go to a free online version (which doesn't replace to true Photoshop whatsoever. I think it's called...pixlr, if you want to check it out, but it's not nearly as good as PS). There are multiple versions of PS, though. There's really old stuff, but you'll most likely find the creative suite series (CS) and the creative cloud series (CC). Since you're on PC, you probably don't have to worry about performance glitches as much as I do on my Mac. ^^ That's just the things with Macs, programs are designed for PCs and aren't always optimized completely for Macs. But you have a PC so that's a different story. I would suggest anything CS5 and newer. Also, if you go CC, make sure you get the photography plan! It's the cheapest plan at only $10 a month! Plus updates are free and fairly frequent, so it's a pretty good deal. ^w^ That's the one I use.

Well, any of the recent Photoshops like CS5, CS6, or CC are practically the same. ^w^ The only difference is that the recent ones have more bells and whistles that aren't always necessary. I'll be able to point out some cool features though regardless of which version you get, so don't feel restricted to CC!
You'll be able to catch onto PS quickly. ^^ If you've already been using digital programs, consider the one you've been using as a simple calculator and then think of PS as the graphing calculator. Many, many more features but the basic controls and principles are the same, more or less.
I will say though that painting and shading at the start is really difficult in PS if you're used to an actual painting program (which PS technically isn't. At the bare bones, it's a photo editor, but it also has the perk of being incredibly flexible with it's brushes, which is why digital painters use is). But don't get discouraged, you'll get the hang of it eventually. ^w^
(Wow, I can seriously talk a lot about these things, haha! XD )

Congratulations for your first year here! Do you realize what you did in one year, how much you improved? What you wrote in the description was beautiful. It's great to see the drawing that started everything, which isn't crappy at all!! This remake that you did of it is absolutely gorgeous and precious, you use all your skills to make it so great, and that really shows, so much quality and beauty. I wish you the best in this place, that you continue to improve, get more watchers, pageviews, etc; because you know what? You are an incredible person and artist, but the most important, a great friend.
BTW I don't see anything wrong with that obsession of bright lights and strong blurring, I think that it improves your drawings.
