Description
I took this picture in Gainesville, FL during an SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) autocross. This type of event allows drivers to get timed laps, one at a time, through a course with cones (slaloms, gates, etc.). Another shot of the Berkin Lotus 7 kit car.Related content

Wow, I'm surprised he didn't have to wear a firesuit. I would even if you didn't have too, the pavement hurts!!!

For solo 2 autocross the SCCA does not require a firesuit except for things like F125 go-carts. The Lotus 7 replica in the above picture would be very hard to roll given its low center of gravity and light weight. Plus, our events are rarely held at sites where there would be obstacles that cause roll overs, like curbs. I've spun off of a course sideways at about 50 mph in a Miata. The car came to an abrupt stop once the wheels dug into the dirt and the opposite side of the car came off of the ground a few inches. In my personal experience this was the best chance a car had to roll, but it didn't come close, even given the slight hop. You would be hard pressed to roll a car with the course designs, speeds reached, and sites used in autocross.

That's very true, it would be almost imposible to roll a Super 7 at low speeds and at a tight track. I just think about the stories that I hear from other drivers. You never know though, but I don't know that track. Even a Super 7 can roll given the right speeds and conditions.

Ah, stones You are absolutely right, cars throw numerous things up as they drive over them, especially with sticky tires. The other thing about solo 2 autocross is that there is only one car on course at a time. We have timing lights and computers so that exact lap times are given. Within each class each driver competes against the others' lap times. Without wheel to wheel racing, you really can't get hit by stones, car parts, or tire rubber fortunately.
You are also correct that ANY car can roll given the right circumstances. I'm just putting it out there for anyone who might want to know that at an SCCA autocross, it is highly unlikely.
Thank you for your interest and safety first attitude, its always better to be safe than sorry.

Yes that's very true. I didn't know that was a solo event either. I just for some reason came to the colclusion that it was some vintage race. Probably because I saw a few Super 7's competing a while back. Funny how you can just come to a conclusion that fast without any facts to back your assumption.
