beautiful soft colours. great capture.
maybe having the "island" not centred but aligned to the rule of thirds might have improved this image, which is not to say its not good of course

i appreciate the comment, i always like to hear other peoples opinions. i think you could be right about the rule of thirds, it's a good excuse to go back there again

Great shot. Really nice composition and perspective. Ive seen shots like these where the aperature is too wide and they don't reall work as well as this. Great colour too.

Thanks for the comment. I was using the stock Canon 18-55 which isn't the best lens out there, i find the narrower aperture gives the sharpness and detail lacking from the lens.

Wow that is really splendid. The bridge is perfectly placed and leads you right across the water to the island. The sky and sea tones give the whole thing a great balance.

Just one of those things, i don't want to take the chance of seeing my work on another website with somebody elses name against it, that would really make me mad!

Great composition mate, really nice shot.
One thing though, why do you watermark your shots?

Thanks mate, glad you like it, i've got a few more from that trip that i'll post over the next few days. Actually, it could be longer thatn that, i've just received my gratis copy of Windows Vista, so i may try setting light to my pc first

You don't like my watermark? I've seen and heard of quite a few people here having there work stolen, maybe it's somewhat pretentious of me, but i'd rather not have that happen to me (no matter how good or bad my work is) Just one 'right-click' and a 'save as' is all it takes. maybe i've just spend too long with computers and hackers!!!

AndyMumford In reply to 2-m [2007-01-23 14:53:18 +0000 UTC]

Ahh, Vista. I guess sooner or later we'll have that forced on us at work...and I can spend my time here spitting and cursing at how much I hate it...."If Bill Gates had a dollar for every time Windows crashed......Oh wait!....He does!!!!!"

And similar such lines

Nah, mate..only joking. I guess when you get used to one OS instead of another, then switching to a different one just seems inconvenient and un-intuitive (if that's a real word).
I do have to say though, that every Vista gimmick I've seen, from the incorporated search bars, to the photo manangement system and the widgets that give you live updates on the weather and stuff kind of looks a lot like they copied it off OSX Tiger.

I have partitioned part of my hard-drive on my Macbook Pro for if I ever want to install Windows. So far, I've seen no reason to, but let me know how you get on with Vista...I'm genuinely interested.

All the best mate

... and if it wasn't for micro$oft making crap softwate, i'd be out of a job!

vista does seem very mac'ish, which I think is a good thing. one thing I can't understand, why did apple move away from powerpc processors to intel processors ? motorola chips have always been far superior in the graphics arena..... anyways...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AndyMumford In reply to 2-m [2007-01-24 12:07:00 +0000 UTC]

This is very true.
I don't know why apple switched. I heard it was because the Motorola (or was it IBM? Or are they the same thing?) were asking for a lot more money for the PowerPC chips they were using, and that apple believed the chips weren't fast enough to allow them to compete when dual-cores became the norm (as they have).
It was a master-stroke by apple though, they managed to ramp up the specs of their computers and knock down the price (my Macbook Pro is pretty much exactly the same price as a comparably spec-ed Sony Viao or a Toshiba and around 500 euros less than the Powerbook I bought 3 years ago), as well as running Windows.
I don't think apple really want to compete any more with Microsoft than they already are...Their share of the PC market is tiny and even gaining an extra 1% from MS is going to mean SERIOUS increases in production to meet that demand...and I don't think apple really want to do that as it would mean having to perhaps lower production standards.
I reckon they see their main profits as being in the ipod and the new iphone...which even the most hardened Windows lover has to admit...that phone looks great. I just hope that shiny interface isn't as susceptible to scratches as ipods are though

2-m In reply to AndyMumford [2007-01-25 11:16:45 +0000 UTC]

Ah, now that's where Apple are trying to compete with Micro$oft. The iPhone is a really great looking device, but i've been using PDA phones for about 2 years now, all with MS OS's [link]

I think they're trying to position it as another revenue stream for iTunes, which is a good move as MS haven't taken that approach yet. Let me know if you get one, i'm very interested to hear first hand what they're like

AndyMumford In reply to 2-m [2007-01-25 11:54:21 +0000 UTC]

Well mate...me getting one is inevitable! I'm a little like you with gadgets
I don't think they'll make it here until at least the end of the year...And that being the case I can't see myself getting one until next March or so.

I've never looked into PDAs before (probably cos apple never made one..which is sad, I know). I travel a fair bit, and for me, having access to a proper html web-browser like Safari, as well as being able to use my own email address (with a decent keyboard interface) is wonderful. I guess I should have looked into MS PDAs before....cos WAP really sucks, and G3 is pretty lame as well....Despite all it's features, I just use my phone as a phone.
As I already use a Mac, being able to synchronise all my bookmarks, calanders and addresses on the iphone really appeals to me...something that you can do on a Windows PDA, but I wouldn't have been able to do as I don't use MS.
Whether I'll switch over from using an ipod to using an iphone for music remains to be seen..I'm interesting in seeing how they incorporate itunes...although from what I've seen it looks pretty cool. But my nano is so tiny in my pocket. I reckon I won't fancy carrying a bulky iphone in my pocket..that's the kind of thing that stays in the bag.

As I said though, my major fear with it is it's durability. The touch screen interface looks awesome, but every ipod I've owned (and I've had 3) and eveyone that friends have owned, have really got scratched up. I've had my nano in a rubber protector since I bought it...but it's still scrathed as dust inevitably works it's way between the protector and the ipod. apple have a tendency to use cheap plastics and metals on their ipods (and on their ibooks as well) to keep costs down. The top of the range Powerbooks, Macbook Pros and stuff are fine..but of course you pay more for them. Apple will want to keep the price of the iphone down, so I suspect it means it's going to be made of lightweight plastic...and I can see that beautiful screen interface being covered in scratches after a month or so.

But these fears aside...OF COURSE I'M GOING TO GET ONE

Thats good to hear . You should have a look at a company called HTC. They're the biggest manufacturer of PDA phones in the world. They supply all the major carriers O2, Vodafone, Orange, T Mobile, Cingular, AT&T , And they also manufacture for people like Dell and HP, One model stands out that i think would suit you, the TyTn [link] - it's a communications powerhouse - 3G, HSDPA (about 1.5mbps in the UK with vodafone), EDGE, WiFi, etc etc, and it's gotr a nice size keyboard. Width and length are about the same as the Motorola Razr, but it is chunkier than the Razr. Build quality is fantastic, and a £1 screen protector is a worthy investment

Do you carry your nano and your cell phone at the same time?

I'm a bit of a geek when it comes to things like this. If you've got access to an exchange server, at work maybe, you can get your email delivered straight to your pda phone within about 2 seconds of it hitting your mailbox. A bit like a crackberry but a nicer device.

I abolutely positively most deffinately could not live without mine. If i remember rightly, you can get MS outlook for the Mac, along with Activesync to connect it to a pda.....

Ooh, I don't know about a PDA yet though. First is the cost: There's other stuff I need more to spend my money on.
Then there's the Windows thing. I've got MS Office for Mac, but I ditched Outlook cos I never use it...Mac Mail works so much better with all the OSX applications. So thanks for the advice, but I reckon I'll wait for an iphone. Sure I could use one...and when I get one, I'll probably not be able to live without it...but it's the cost of a smart lens (Oooh, the nikkor 85mm 1.8f looks gorgeous).

And yeah, I carry my Nano and my phone everywhere..but my phone stays in my bag and they are both tiny tiny.

Ooh! a nice fast prime eh? i like the sound of that. I've got to cut back on my spending, i promised Sam we'd finish the work on the house this year, and my car goes back in 2 months so i've got to decide on a new one (far too many choices!) Fair comment - if we all used the same software/devices, the world would be a boring place. do let me know when you get the iPhone (i know you'll get one )
