A Visual Guide to ProjectComment ,For a full, literary guide to ProjectComment , please click here: ProjectComment InformationProjectComment has been an active group since 2009 to give you the constructive comments you deserve!
We have many projects that encourage our awesome members to give comments and get comments. These projects involve workshops, features, chat events, contests and, more importantly, systems that rely on interchange, inclusion and interaction.
To both give and get comments is no easy task, but, with the many projects that we have here, we hope that you find something that works best for you. If not, why not make a suggestion by noting us?
Additionally, if you have any questions or anything else at all, please do not hesitate to contact us!
Our Values
Our awesome admins and members give comments and get comments with the following values in mind:
Interchange
…to restore balance – comment for comment, positive and negative, give and take.
Inclusion
…to accept all
Where you start and what you do in ProjectComment is entirely up to you!
We don't ask our members to comment 24/7. We understand that life is busy, especially when it takes time, effort and more to give and get constructive comments.
If you're not sure where to start or what to do, follow the chart above!

I understand that the message of the group is to promote commenting and interaction between artists and other deviants. I am a little intimidated by the 200 and 300 word minimums, especially since its a little cumbersome to read all that as an artist, and as a commenter I feel like it's a lot more than what people are looking for on their pictures. Are we expected to meet those word count minimums regularly, or is that only to contribute to the "give and get" categories?
There is also a critique function on deviantart that artists can volunteer for, so is this the same basic idea? There is a word minimum or 300 words on those and it's best practices to be constructive and offer valuable feedback.

The minimums are there only for gallery submissions and one or two journal projects. For the gallery, everyone writes a constructive comment to submit their work, and so they would like to get the same in return. There's no need to fear people aren't looking for it - pretty much all of them appreciate a constructive comment that is written to help them on their artistic journey.
You can utilize DeviantArt's Critique Platform to write your constructive comment if that is what you wish.

Okay, I think I understand. And I didn't mean like "there's already a system in place" or something by bringing up the critique system, I was just trying to understand the rules for how to comment in this group. Thank you for clarifying.

Not that many rules. If you'd like to submit to our gallery, please make a 200 word minimum comment on a piece in our gallery and link us to the piece so we know. If you don't want to submit to our gallery, you may comment however way you wish.

I don't understand how that would be the case. It's a 1 for 1 system - you give 1 comment, you get 1 comment.

Love the idea, particularly the premise of getting critique without having to be a Core member to request.
Plan to be more active soon as I have a life again, lol, but please don't boot me yet, it's not intentional for the next while

Hiya!!! I like the idea of helping inspire and motivating artists via comments. I just want to know. I like never ever have 200 words to tell anyone, like ever. I'd love to tell people what I love about there work, can it be less then 200 words (something like 50)? Coz I'm like literally practicing a long comment here, and this is all I got XD.

If you have no interest of submitting your work to the gallery, you're welcome to comment however way you wish. If you would like to submit to our gallery for comments, we do ask for 200 words minimum. We have guides and other resources that may help you there if you're interested.

Hey, I'd like to clear some things up. So, to start:
I can just make a comment on a work, and in doing so I should refer to ProjectComment with the emoticons and signature and such? Is this necessary?
Can I do the same with critiques?
After making a comment/critique, I post on the main page... what exactly? A quick note of the comment made, then a link to the work?
Sorry if these are rather obvious questions, this chart is just a tad difficult to understand in practice. I'm sure once I do it once I'll get the hang of it.

Apologies for my late response.
Yes, you make a 200 word minimum comment on a piece in the group gallery. If you can refer to the group with emoticons, signature, statement, etc. that will help the artist.
You can do the same with critiques.
After you make a comment/critique, you post on the main page the links to the works you commented on, and the works you'd like to submit to the gallery.

Hi guys, I hope this is something nice. Anyway, 200 words sound ridiculously long but I can probably run something suitable in my head that will give decent word combinations. It mostly has two problems, loses track easily and writes in ridiculoous run-on sentences that just keep going and going so it all reads like a ramble rather than a proper commentation of a happening or an event. Anyway, I'll throw in the pot this plz I made ages ago. I forgot the password for it so can't even upgrade the image or probe I made it but here ya go:
Also it took me forever to figure out how to actually get the text to submit on here. Technology I swear

You don't have to write run-on sentences to make a 200-word-minimum comment. In fact, you can be quite concise with the sentences you use. The key to getting to 200 words is to explain your reasonings, and expand on your explanations. For example, if you like the pose of a character, explain why you like it, how you think the artist achieved it. If you think something could be improved, you can be specific, guide them on how to improve, explain why it should improve, etc.

Constructive Commenting: Guiding QuestionsProjectComment believes every single person on DeviantArt can write a constructive comment, but constructive commenting is not necessarily easy for us. That is why we have produced this article of questions, written with the intention to guide you in your constructive commenting should you need additional support.
Take note that the following should be used as a guide and basic foundation for your comment, not to be used or interpreted as a checklist or minimum required by ProjectComment. The below should help you expand upon your own comment, as we do not accept comments that are itemized lists. What is a Constructive Comment?

#01 Constructively Comment in 5 Quick Steps!ProjectComment is a Group of many projects centred around comments, but, more importantly, constructive comments. Every week, one admin from ProjectComment will write an informative article on commenting that will hopefully be useful to you! Please help support us by the article and contribute your thoughts and opinions on the matter.
This article will list five easy ways to make your comment constructive. What many people do not realise is that a constructive comment does not have to be as long or as indepth as a critique, and that you don't need to be an awesome commenter or an awesome artist to write a constructive comment. You probably won't have to spend more than 5-10 minutes writing a constructive comment, and it could still be helpful to the artist.
Here are the steps that you can take to make your comment more constructive:
State the things you like about the piece.
