Description "It'll take him a year to get all the burns and scars everyone else earns. You gotta earn it, you can't buy it."- Big Jim Dunn, 1993 NHRA Slick 50 Nationals interview after Kenji Okazaki's first big funny car fire.

When I look at this car, I am reminded of that quote. I have never seen a Hot Wheels car with quite with that much weathering on a wheel. It's been worn smooth from years of love and playing. This is an original redline Hot Wheels Splittin' Image I purchased at a flea market for 50 cents. As you can see, this car has been repainted an enamel red by a previous owner. The only evidence of the original orange Spectraflame paint is the empty engine bay and a few other spots where the color peeks through. The headlights are painted a metallic gold, which shows an interesting attention to detail on a repaint like this. I like to do some minor touch-ups on some beat-up redlines I own, but this one is not going to receive that treatment. The only thing I am going to do with this one is find a replacement engine, which shouldn't be too difficult given that this model has been reproduced.

They make reproduction redline parts, not cheap though. Under $10 per part, Mostly $3 to $6 range.

I'm hoping to find some of the reproduction cars they made in the 90s at a thrift store or yardsale to salvage stuff from. I have a bunch of those from when I was a kid, but it would be a conflict of interest for me to cannibalize them for the parts I need.

Aye, maybe it might work, the 90's redline rereleases. Never gave it any thought, but I'd imagine it would be pretty close if not the same.

I'm lucky enough to have 3 of my father's redlines.

I'm always buying them when I see them cheap.
