Description Ex Nihilo (Out of Nothingness)

The tympanum of the center portal is a representation of the instant of humankind’s creation. The carving depicts eight half-formed men and women, representing life. They appear to me struggling as they emerge from the great void.

Artist : Frederick Hart, 1947
Sculptors: Vincent Palumbo, Walter Arnold, Gerald Lynch and Patrick Plunkett, 1982

It's one of FH's greatest works, in my estimation, and not for its religious imagery. It is a universal image.
