Description
Before you even start, I want to say this is JUST a recollection of how I went about drawing one of my gift arts. I thought it was a good way to teach patience and practice just in case anyone ever gets in the same predicament as me.I'm putting it in Scraps because..... well, I don't know HOW useful this is going to be as a genuine article.
And it's JUST a simple tutorial. Tutorials are meant to be saved and stored in reliably places. It's not something that should be +fav'd.

This is really useful. You bring up a lot of good points. I'll read it carefully for my next work. Thanks for putting this up!

I'm sure I could have explained it better. The funny thing is I can learn the technique well enough, but not teach it.
Hope it helps~!

Go for it. ^^ By the way, one really important tip I didn't mention is when you do the silhouette test, make sure to stand back (or shrink the image) until it's about thumbnail size. Human vision kinda goes loopy at a certain distance which is why we need those exciting shapes and forms.
