oh Teagan, you actually expect Helix to use words? that's adorable*flails* OKAY I LEARNED THINGS ABOUT COMICS and like, what page size to use lol. and where the margin and trim is on a page, if you're printing. printing is definitely a very, very distant goal of mine (will i even print a comic ever??) but it's good to practice!! and that makes a good excuse to draw this snippet of dialogue which has been stuck in my head for whatever dumb reason
ugh but i definitely need to practice, like, everything.
holy tits it's 3:30 AM why am i still talking wHO AM I EVEN TALKING TO

Pahahahahahaha, ohmygosh though, I'm absolutely in love with this concept of short comic tests/snippets, what a good way to get a feel for comics~ O:
And to get a feel for your characters, too-! Just a tiny little snippet like this gives me so much insight into their personalities, it's just, the absolute best hahahah~ <3 And holy hell man but you go all out! Such detailed rendering and lighting--in such dramatic lighting conditions, too!! idk 'bout you but this is totally the start of a great relationship, amirite. 8)

ahh thank you so much for the awesome comments!! ♥(ノ´∀`)
snippets made the whole process a lot less intimidating for me, so I'm really glad they've been so well-received! ;o; i've learned a lot so far and in a span of a few pages i got way better at this comic thing!!
bwahaha I. I do get carried away with detail sometimes xD but it's fun for me, and i like the result. it's something i wanna stick with. C: haha of course i threw in the dramatic lighting, it's all leading up to the action sequence! *abuses light for any and every reason*
And most importantly, i'm happy to (finally) give some insight into my characters' lives! ;w; i can already smell the friendship between them!!!

I got to the part where Teagan paused for Helix to elaborate on the story and had to hold in a laugh that came out as a snort anyways xD Also, I like their progression down the stairs in the last two panels.
Dude. When you finish a comic and start printing it I want in. I'm so excited for that~
MOAR COMICS! DO EEEEEEEEEEEEEET!
"...why am i still talking wHO AM I EVEN TALKING TO" *peers around the corner* MEEEEEEEEEE! I do that, where I'll be up late on dA and post and start talking about something like someone asked a question and I'm explaining - and then I pause and go, "what the crickets...what am I doing? Go to bed K!"

Heck yes. I definitely want in on a comic you make. I believe in you and after all the work I've seen you do in art and story craft (and especially the leaps in your peek-a-boo comic panels) I am super excited for that!! I know you have skill at it and your characters are more than one level deep.

daww thanks so much! i really think it would be fun to do a print run of a comic through crowdfunding or something. it's way down the road from now but it's encouraging to think it's actually a possibility ;v;

Of course! That's okay. That just means in the time between now in then you've got plenty to experiment with and play with to get a comic to the point of publication.

Well, distance shouldn't be a single problem, honestly. The one I've taken was via coursera.org, - online university site, if you've heard about it - and it was aired from the US (I think from Colorado, in particular... but I'm not sure).
I can only quote my favourite stamp here: "There's never enough time to do all the NOTHING you want." I mean, yeeaa.. story needs to be finished, chapters need to be organised, consistency exercises need to be taken, style needs to be decided/experimented, character personalities need to be refined...
And this is only ONE story. while thinking about the world's structure and other stuff, I've already created TWO separate spinoffs... not to mention that that whole, bigger world canon has ANOTHER two stories as well :'D
oh ye. and I'd need to learn to draw lol.
honestly, my artistic self is only active after 3:00 pm >.<

distance is a huge problem if you're shit at doing online courses :'D
yeah, it's a lot of work, and will take a long time to get there. but the way i look at it, during the time it takes to put everything together, i'll grow and gain more experiences (artistic and otherwise) and i'll be able to apply those as i work on my story. :3 even tho i'm crazy impatient, i work on it little by little, so i'll get somewhere eventually. c:
at least you know where you wanna go and what you need to do~ i'm rooting for ya!! (and psh you know how to draw~)

RedCyclon In reply to 5-prime [2015-01-21 18:33:34 +0000 UTC]
honestly, I'm not too great with online courses either. My motto is "I can procrastinate tomorrow" so, any deadline pretty much messed me up right there. but coursera is free so you really have nothing to loose from just trying. truth to be told I never exactly finished that comic course, so I'm waiting for the next occasion to retry it.
I may know where I am and where I want to go, but I'm just so damm lazy... It needs some artistic kick in the butt for me to take any action - like look at your mini-comics or Indi's art or reading shilin's Carciphona :'D
as for drawing... I'm self taught. and I'm the kind who thinks self-taught = nothing. I AM pleased with my skill, don't get me wrong. but it would be nice to learn draw proper - like drawing hundreds of cubes and draperies and vases and ... acts. So that I'd have a firm grip on anatomy and perspective and cloth wrinkles.
(but thanks for the compliment is means a lot c: )

oooooh can't argue against free! i wonder if they have summer classes, i could totally do that~
ahhh m-my mini comics inspire you? :'D *still needs to read Carciphona someday* i totally know what it's like to see like, something epic from Indi and just be like BAM INSPIRED. wait i'm getting off track. i mean, artistic inspiration is so important, it's why i have my precious collection of webcomics and anime and music, but like, 90% of art is discipline. for me, that's drawing every single day. even if it's just a sketch. so like, even tho i'm p damn lazy, i've been able to maintain that schedule for a year and a half or 2 years or something wow how do time. and now i wanna bump that up to "draw daily AND make a practice comic page monthly". anyway, what i'm getting at is that i think the best motivation comes from momentum - making art leads to making more art.
and for you, you could do daily drawings centered around themes - "this week, i'll draw 10 draperies every day" or whatev works for you. and that can be a way to give you the practice you need to draw the way you want. :3 cuz learning to draw proper is really nothing more than practice with a bit of technical knowledge on top.

huff
never apologize for writing too much! ... at least not to me c; while I definitely fall under the category of "introverted as f*ck", I love hearing about other people. especially if it makes them happy that they can talk to me.
well, I certainly played with the consistent sketching idea. it sounds nice and educational; tho I doubt I could get down and draw just stupid draperies by myself if I can draw my CHARcATERZ. or others' ... because as the things are now, I have more fan art in my gallery than original one. which makes me kinda sad somewhere.
anyway, I salute you for being so determined for 2 years and I'm rooting for your comic challenge! (I mean pls do it, I'd so like to see more comics from you! and yes, they definitely inspire me ^^)
I'm positive they have summer courses, because the one about python I took and actually finished was during the summer. as for the comic one, I guess it was during summertime too, but I'm not sure.

huffs okay!!! i can talk a lot sometimes and i feel bad about it lol. but i only ramble when i'm talking to ppl i'm comfortable with ;3;
Ahahah omg no i totally understand. "if i draw these stock photos, i could learn so much anatomy.... or i can draw Soren's dumb face again!!!!" so that's why i try to make my drawing exercises fun. cuz yeah, drawing 10 draperies is boring, but if i can make my characters interact with the draperies, it's both fun and practical! :3 my old account was like that, i hardly ever uploaded my drawings my own characters back then... sad times they were ;n;
ahhh thanks dude, hearing that keeps me motivated!! ;w; i definitely wanna do more comics, and it's nice to hear that people actually like reading them lmao self confidence game strong *sobs*
i could totes do a summer class... ohhhh i'm looking at their catalog right and it's looks soo cool oHMygoD THEY EVEN HAVE GENETICS COURSEs hhhhhhhhhh

duh good to know ya feel comfortable with me :'D
but hey, we are in the same boat - I can talk a LOT too and go into endless rambles about all the sh*t that has happened to me... but I kinda always constrain myself from doing so in comments because I'm convinced no one gives a damn.
soo... yeah. if you think you wanna talk some more other than these comments just throw me a pm or whatever. I'd be more than glad to be a partner in that c:
mmhh... yeah interactive draperies sound like something that could even work - I mean it could totally work, thanks for the idea!
ahahahh... you're welcome! and welcome to the low-end of self-confidence game, I guess XD
*sobs some more*
hey, ikr - coursera is awesome. I'm glad you've found it useful too!
