Well, here we've got something that was mostly dead for a while. Saeru had given up hope months ago that it would ever be uploaded, for it is circa January-ish.But mostly dead, means *slightly alive* and it has been kept in the shuffle of the to-color items until such a time when the planets were correctly aligned and the proper background was sought out.
Anyway, looks like a stray building pelted a Sora head, and somebody forgot to pack an extra Phoenix Down in his more than ample pocket. Dude...the angst. >XD
This was actually meant to be the "basically serious and sad" installment in a series of potential Game Over images...I wonder if Saeru will ever draw us up any more...?

I've been wondering for months if I would see anything out of that 'mostly dead' pile ever again. When I was going through it the other day, I kept surprising myself with the number of pictures that were drawn and colored but not background-ed that I had completely forgotten about. I bet the number is at least 10
I guess I tend to think grand thoughts. All the 'what ifs' of Kingdom Hearts...hence the beginning of my whole 'Game Over' series. I still haven't drawn the picture that inspired said series, but I'm still sorely tempted to, as its much less...intense...than this picture.
I wish I could remember the emotion I felt when I was drawing it. I wanted, really, for all the angst to go to Sora...I've been wanting SO LONG for Sora to get SOME sort of retribution for the actions he's taken....but instead I seem to have taken it out on poor Riku.
Poor Riku...who hasn't been through enough just yet...oh no. Not until he looses everything. *not serious*
...yeah, Riku doesn't deserve this picture.But maybe Sora does. >.> I'm starting to wonder if Kairi cursed him when she told him not to change. He'll probably die completely naive and innocent.
...which wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that he has done some very unforgivable things.

We kinda left it up to interpretation. (But yeah, while sometimes Sora pisses us off in his naivetΓ©, I'm not sure if we're all about Sora-bashing-to-the-point-of-death.)
I think we just wanted some Riku angst, is all, to be honest.
This was originally intended to be part of a series of drawings on alternate Game Overs...but we never quite fleshed out the rest of them yet. ^_^;

Wow, this is such a beautiful and emotional picture. And I really love your commentary. I wish I could add something or share an insight, because I completely understand what you mean when you say that there could be so much more to Sora. Maybe if the game wasn't E-rated, then they could convey more dramatic emotions? I guess they wouldn't want like, 10-year-olds walking around thinking about the consequences of mindlessly killing people off. : /
I'm sure somewhere inside, Sora might have wanted to help the Organization in the beginning. But then maybe Roxas's anger towards them+the whole kidnapping Kairi thing+Sora's whole "believe whatever the king/Yen Sid tells me to do" thing probably had an effect on him. ._. I don't know. I just really hope that Sora's in the next Kingdom Hearts game. Then, since he's finally settled down, maybe he'll get to thinking about what he's done?
Anyway, I really do love this picture. It's always so great to see how you use colors and textures to portray emotions. Their positions are perfect, and I think you did an amazing job of trying to show how powerful a scene like this would be. >w<

You bring up a great deal of good points, actually. I hadn't pondered the game's intended audience before, and...it really is something I should be thinking about. I do hope he gains a depth in the next game that he was lacking in this one, but I can see why they've done what they've done. Just gives me good food for thought, and a canvas upon which to paint.

unforgivable things? when did he do something that was that bad, because last i saw he didn't seem that mean to me.
he is nieve but it sorta gives the game a cool breeze because he is so refreshing with all the heartless nobodies being so serious most of the time.
i'm a fan of sora and the organization though riku rubbed me the wrong way in the first game, so i'm confused i never seen him do anything that was bad or wrong. [well in my eyes]
as for the picture it would be interesting to have game over screens like that, i'd have to die in every boss fight to see how he would die at least once just out of curiousity if anything. riku's expression in this one is perfect and looking at the picture i would feel bad for both of them if saw that in the game.

Sora's damned cute, I do agree there. It is nice to have someone so lighthearted being a hero. But he is, from my point of view, naively killing people that he has no business blindly killing. He helps everyone he comes into contact with...why not help the Organization? Especially considering they're -willing- to try a less evil approach, if they could get the assistance for it, or the option for it. That is what makes me upset with Sora...
he's got this intense ability to make friends with ANYONE(including pirates, who are, by nature, not so moral of persons), but because Yen Sid tells him to, he doesn't stop to consider if going after the Organization is the right thing or not. He didn't make the decision himself, and he should have.
But yeah, totally! I'd be dying all the time to see what neat art or renders happened...
It would be a lot of fun. ^.^

well from what yen sid said all nobodies are destined to die eventually, and to get a heart someone has to die or well turn into a heartless i'm not even sure if there is a better way besides xemnas had a ton of hearts why doesn't he use them rather then throwing heartless into worlds to extract hearts?
and wasn't it xemnas who kinda got himself wasted in hollow bastion by the darkness he unleashed, even though i'd a probably done the same thing.
i wish the organization didn't have to die senselessly even though in my opinion marly desrved it for controlling namine.
but anyway how could he have helped them i don't see any way that wouldn't envolve some sacrfice.

Hate as in, goddamnit, it's stirred me enough, previously, and even now, to attempt to replicate, and I failed, so hardcore, that I sloshed over it with out-of-the-tube black, as per my own usual. How dare you unwittingly inspire me and pull me out of my happy little rut! /wink
saeru. saeru, saeru, saeru, hunny... You. You, I hate for playing with my views. I am so ridiculously fanatical over Sora [well, perhaps not fanatical, but...]. You know this, or I've assumed you do, and, yet, your thought process, your arguments, are so compelling and so original and so well-formed, that it's made me really consider that other... Train of thought, concerning the Org... and that brat with a giant key. But, you're absolutely right. If, for nothing else, it would be satisfying to dump a ton of angst onto that little ray of naievety, just for the pure depth it would give the series, which it is, still, lacking for the most part; I would hope the all-might Nomura hears your prays. /smirk

Lovely pose work, saeru. It looks quite natural... Sometimes, I've seen this pose, by others, come out really... rigid. U-E, that texture on the blue of Sora's shoe... I'm in love with it. Quite litterally, yeah. It's brilliant, y'all, even if it's been laying around for over half a year.

...to be honest, I've felt a much closer relationship to Sora since cosplaying him. I didn't actually realize that you had that strong of an opinion about him, and I would -love- to hear your thoughts. ^.^
Sora is...adorable. It is WONDERFUL that he can keep his carefree nature and pure innocence despite essentially having the universe shoved onto his shoulders multiple times, especially since so many folks here in the real world think that a person does need to face reality and 'grow up' at some point. I don't want Sora to grow up...I really want him to always be as sweet as he is, because more people should be that way, and just live for what they consider important.
AND THAT IS WHY HE MAKES ME SO ANGRY.
He runs around making friends with everyone. EVERYONE. Fricken' pirates with NO morals, for heaven's sake. But he never stops to consider why he's going after the Organization...that he's just doing it because someone said it was the right thing to do. He never makes his own judgment call on it...
I don't think he needs to grow up, but he does need to consider the ramifications of what he's doing...that with his wonderful power comes the ability to wreak terrible destruction (as KH1 warned us about). I, like Riku, want Sora to GET IT.
I want to see his big blue eyes understand the lives he's ruined. And this is inspiring me to write or draw or...something.

This picture was, in concept of the pose, based off of one I saved onto my computer YEARS ago....probably about ten years, actually. I certainly wasn't referencing it, but I remembered how powerful it was...this boy holding this crumpled and fallen girl in his arms....and I wanted to see if I could do it. If I could take two figures and put them in a theoretical '3-D' space interacting that closely with each other. I guess its only recently I've begun to understand perspectives and horizons, and its become a bit of a game to play around with it...although it probably would help me to have ever taken an anatomy class. e.e I have absolutely no idea about how the human body is supposed to behave...so I've made up my own rules for it that I'm -sure- are wrong. Thank you, really, for noticing. It was very hard to do. x-x I wish the expressions had turned out better, though.

It's funny that the shoes got mentioned at all. They were the reason I shoved this one away for so long, pulling it out every so often in dismay that the faeries had not yet come to fix that issue for me. Two days ago, I grabbed a marker and just scribbled on top of whatever was there, hoping it was adequate to be considered "complete" because I have liked the rest of this well enough for a while.
I need more people to come join me on the dark side of multi-colored blackness! Keep trying, yo. ^_-

Well... I guess I should clarify. It's not that... I'm, well... Opinionated about Sora. I mean, I *am*, of course, we all have opinions on whatever character, but... And, well, it's not that I'm necessarily passionate about him, either. I'm just heartilly fond of him. I'm like you, hunny. I absolutely adore that he's been dipped in saccharine, and wrapped up in five, or so, layers of cuteness. I'm a total child at heart, so I'm instantly drawn to that adorable innocence in him.
However. I totally understand where your idea's coming from, hunny. And I even agree with it. In a way... Sora reminds me of FFT's Ramza, back in Chapter 1.... And, to an extent, the rest of that whole game: The archetypical sweet and good and purehearted hero! Nice and kind and goodspiritied, always with his chin up, out to 'do the right thing', even if he ain't quite sure, himself, what it is. [Hell, Ramza's just as pulled along by influence and circumstance as Sora is, and is just as willing...] And, I love them both. In fact, Sora's reminding me of Ramza so much might be part of the reason I heart Sora so....
But.
My ...Not really a problem... But... Whatever I'm trying to think of, but can't, to describe this instance... Is almost solely with Nomura. He's keeping the boy, that little kid with a key, just *that*. He's keeping him horribly one-dimensional, and sure, that one dimension is satisfying, to an extent, as we both agree, but... THERE COULD BE SO MUCH MORE. It would be so much more satisfying for that proverbial 2-ton weight of reality and consequence and awareness to just land on top of Sora and litterally knock some sense, some depth, into him.
But, then I argue myself into a circle. If this all occured... Would it still be the KH I'm so in heart with? Maybe yes, maybe no... Would I really be happy, or would I whine for the days of the purely innocent and careless Sora?
Uh. Yeah... That's that. LOL!
Ten years, huh? Jesus. I feel.... Young. Um, anyway. Anyone, with vision or otherwise, can tell I'm far-the-hell-off with anatomy. I'd love to take a course, too, but... Well. Realistically, I just don't see it happening. The one artistic anatomy course we had here was put on the chopping block years ago, before I even attended.
And... I hate to say something bad about y'all's work, but I hardly ever get to, since it's so damn good, but... I think I agree about the expressions... Probably Riku's the most, actually. I mean, it's not bad... It's just not... I *know* it's not quite *there*, where y'all wanted it.

Thats really poignant. And its...true. Sora embodies innocence...but it makes him stale to only be encompassed by that one fact alone. Yet if you change him...is he Sora?
My answer would be yes. I think...if one was careful about it...Sora could be both mature and innocent at the same time. ^.^ And I like the image of that Sora, looking back fondly on his youth and seeing how far he's come and how much he's accomplished with the new KNOWLEDGE that he has.

They changed a number of surprising things. Some of it was probably do to the limitations of the PS2 platform, but some of it (like the camera adjusting being right next to the move stick allowing me to not ever successfully rotate the camera) really confuses us.
But ending art would ROCK. So would alternate endings. So would even alternate ways to GET to the end. I know the game is meant for all ages, but I'd love the OPTION for it to be complex...;-;

Actually, I thought that the camera rotation being for the right stick was somewhat of an improvement (That is, once I got used to it.).
Alternate endings would be AWSOME!!! But they would probly effect the future plot of Kingdom Hearts too much. You know, they're going to come out with another Kingdom Hearts game in a year or two. Releasing the title in half a month. (Got this info from an interview with the creator that was posted online.)
