Description During the Conrail transition, there was a lot of chaos and budgets were tight. Many repairs were done with what was available and paint was expensive. Here we have Conrail SD9 #6921, nÊe Pennsylvania 7621 leading Conrail SD9 6924, the engine formerly known as Pennsylvania 7624. Until I checked the roster, I was convinced that 6921 was an SD7, but it appears it is actually an SD9, and if you zoom in on the steps you can see that both units are, actually, SD9s. The lead unit is an N scale Atlas in factory paint with a half-hearted attempt at weathering (mostly so that it didn't look TOO new next to its weathered sister), while the trailing unit, also an Atlas, is an attempt at a transition unit, using the Penn Central fonts and numbers to rebadge it as Conrail. Since black paint was scarce, they used it lightly except where absolutely necessary, so some of the old motifs are showing through. I was extremely pleased with how this engine turned out, and weathered it using photographs of a similar unit. There is a picture on the web somewhere, dated 1982, of the prototype of this unit, still in this paint scheme, and parked on a storage track.

I would love to own a REAL SD7 or SD9. I've got several SD 7/9 units in HO scale. Mostly Athearn. I love these old Cadillacs.

Yeah, me too. I have these set up elephant style, but I usually run them back to back, long hood forward. They are the perfect balance between class, style, ride quality and brute force.
