Description
Hey everyone,This is my second digital painting! ...Another practice piece to try out some techniques and a much better attempt than my first i feel. Took around 20 - 25 hours i think.
Photoshop cs3 and a Wacom bamboo digital tablet.
I ask you to please respect the artwork and DO NOT steal for use without my permission.

May I ask how you achieved the leather pattern in his clothing?

Of course no worries...
Firstly i painted the lighting and values of the fabric... so it was pretty smooth... just to get the right levels of lighting and contrast... Then i overlayed a texture of leather from a stock source... to give it the basic texture... then on a new layer again above all the others, i paint in small highlights to bring out the cracks in the leather... and finish up using a small round brush (opacity and scale set to pen pressure) to paint marks and scratches into the leather... to give it a worn feel!
I hope that has helped, if you have any more queries, do not hesitate to ask!

Ha ha I never saw that you had it added to so many groups... My mistake.

that is alright, i only added it to so many groups in the last week, i just need more artwork to submit and the time to paint them

Indeed, hopefully it will be giving you more followers, oh an keep in mind, people seem to like dynamic action paintings, portraits, pieces with familiar scenes, that's at least what I've come to understand.
But as long you manage to capture the escence and present it in a special style depending on whether it stays true to the original or goes in a new direction, you'll most certainly do well in capturing the masses attention.
So I'm look forward to see what you come up with

This is greatly detailed and I see that a lot of work went into it, a great piece. However as a suggestion, I'd like to suggest you completely avoid photo-realism as it can lead to Uncanny Valley: [link]

I had never even thought about that... but i think i will have to take that risk, i just looove detail... and the achievement of painting something with such intricacy is what i enjoy. I am an extreme perfectionist, and keep working with my pieces until i am happy with the results. Thank you of course for the thought of concern. Though it seems quite a farfetched reason don't you think?

Its a human psyche thing, thats all very farfetched! Anyways as I said it's still a great piece as it has the characterisation/personality of the watchmen film art dept

great detail and certainly an amazing piece. my ONLY criticism is that he looks too... clean, he needs more imperfections, more wrinkles. he looks a little like a plastic doll haha. but still, very nice

Thank you! ...i know what you mean, his skin is very bare and plain... when i painted this, i just did what i could manage... I have learned a lot since doing this, so if i don't just repaint it... i will certainly come back and add/change bits to it. Thanks again for your kind words and crit, it is always welcome!

Dr. Manhattan: She was pregnant. And you gunned her down.
Edward Blake: That's right. And you know what, you watched me. You could've turned the gun into steam, the bullets into mercury, the bottle into goddamned snowflakes but you didn't, did you? You really don't give a damn about human beings. You're driftin' out of touch, Doc. God help us all.
