Description
This is my first ever attempt at making icons, i have done everything from scratch in Photoshop and would love some criticism about what should be fixed and whatnot.Related content

Looks niceβ the radial gradient on the black part feels kinda out of place, as all of the other elements in the icon are flat [linear gradient] shaded, so maybe make that a smooth linear gradient like the rest of'em. Nice first icon, and quite usable. A good way to check the lighting & style of mac icons is to put them next to some of the greats and see how well they fit in.
Cheers, nice art, if you want to talk icons feel free to reply or send me a note

Glad you replied cause i was looking at your work and was going to ask you about what you use to make your icons, i have just started using adobe illustrator to make this icon here [link] and i finished it in Photoshop for shadows and effects, what do you think about this one?

I use GIMP, actuallyβno layer styles, smart objects, or vector masks. Icon looks nice, a tip, though, is that when working with yellows, darkening via multiply or similar looks kinda ugly. I would suggest having two inner shadows, one set to overlay and one to multiply, so that the yellows become more reddish as well as darker. Otherwise, looks fine to me

I took your advice and played around with those overlay settings [link] , it really brought out the some detail especially on the yellow, thanks man.
