Explanation:
Four projects were required for my Introduction to the Arts course, this being the third to final project. We had to choose something or someone special to us and create a mixed-media painting (in color). I chose my roommate, Jenina Podulka, and developed the painting with similarities to Johannes Vermeer's "The girl with the pearl earring".

I like the colours and style, but somehow it has a unbalance. Dunno if the hair and lips causing it...

Well in this case my feeling is you chose for a figured balance, that has a lower tonal range, like "flat"-match. In this case its a match but since the hair and mouth do have highlites, and therefore has much more tonal range then the rest of the drawing, so that really pops out to me as a vieuwer.

I thought there was clear depth around the eyes as well as in the iris.
The fabric wound around the hair was supposed to be dull since it's fabric.
The shirt is almost completely flat because I wanted all my detals concentraited in the face.

I don't think there was anything wrong with the eyes, just that purple-ish hair seem to match more in manga-style. It were my two cents though; and you're the artist of the piece so you're always the best to judge

I want to understand more; I like to be fully aware of what my piece feels like from another perspective.
The hair is dark red on my computer, not purple. That could be why we're interpreting it differently.

Oh, wow, I like it a lot. Especially the black lines and limited colours. Very earthy and proud.
