Description
after the fifth concept, there were 3 more options:
- an through deck cruiser which could do air defence and would carry helicopters for other missions, and, if needed, some VTOL aircraft.
- an full carrier, designed around CATOBAR aircraft, which would have self defence weapons on board and would rely on it's aircraft and helicopters for other roles.
- go back to the normal cruiser/destroyer weapons fit and loose most if not all helicopter capabilities.

the third option was discarded: the utopian navy saw the need for an standard multirole destroyer instead of this heavy air defence destroyer. the multirole would become the fictional heroes class, which would be cheaper so it could be build in large numbers. so since this decision was made, the mjolnir class would be an light (assault) aircraft carrier.

this one is the through deck cruiser option.

operationally it would be used more like an small (escort) carrier, but it was capable of launching powerful flights of vertfighters, hence the assault cruiser classification.

this ship was not build because it's self defence was considered to weak and because the vertfighter project was cancelled. if the vertfighter wasn't cancelled, this ship was most likely build, but with upgraded CIWS/Gun arnament. but instead, the hull design of this ship was used for an full semi angled deck for CATOBAR operations. four of those ships would be taken into service.

the airwing for escort operations consisted of 6 vertfighters and 12 westland lynx helicopters, for assault missions they could have swapped this for 4 helicopters and 12 vertfighters.
