Description
Skin is fascinating, this is not a skin tones tutorial but more of a skin optics kinda thing. Btw I never went to art school or whatever, so erm, this is not the absolute word on the topic, just a collection of thoughts. For info about what brushes I use check out the Blending Tutorial:[link]
I'm using Photoshop CS2 and Wacom Intuos 2 for this.
Edit: apologies to those of you who are freaked out by the little skin balls, hahahahaha, sorry really

it could be cut outs with torn flesh or showing bloody under layers and a drippy background

True, true... doesn't change the fact that it's still a great tutorial, though

This tutorial helped me ten times more than any other skin tutorial I have ever used from here. Thank you!
--And on a side note, I liked the little skin circles. It made it easier for me to do it myself while reading through the tutorial. ((I also really appreciated how you kept the little color swatches that you used to the side so that they were easy to get!)) On a whole: Thank you!

Just because you've never been to art school- that doesn't mean you don't know what you're talking about. Much of art is talent and observational ability- don't let any art 'student' or art 'professional' tell you otherwise. Your work and thoughts on the subject are fantastic and noone can shoot you down on that.

He's right. Art School doesn't make you're drawing better, but it opens up you're imagination, creativity, and most importantly, you're inner potential.
But I don't go either.

Wow! Splendid tutorial!
I was always a little uncertain how to colour in skin to make it look more textured and lively.
Thanks for creating this! It's very helpful!

Oh, very nice. I always assumed that shadows were universally more saturated that lighter areas. I'm still learning, so this helps a lot.
