I'm not sure. There is a comment down below by a spider enthusiast a while ago. I am pretty sure that she identified the exact species in the comment, so you could find that comment if you wanted to.

I just found this pic while searching back for a pic of an Israeli tarantula, Chaetopelma gracile, that was posted sometimes earlier this year. This is one gorgeous spider, but it's not a "red knee tarantula", though; that is Brachypelma smithi, commonly called a "Mexican Red-knee" in the pet trade. I'm not even sure this is a Brachypelma species, since it looks more like a Pamphoboteus, sometimes called "Chicken spiders". It's gorgeous, whatever it is, and I have not yet seen this species available in captivity in the US. I keep tarantulas as a hobby, by the way, so I'm not in the least freaked out by them, except in the way most women are freaked out by shoe sales, LOL-"I WANT IT!" I would so love to have this animal in my collection, better yet, a pair of them!

Wow, thank you for all the information I am too scared of spiders to be able to collect them, but in theory it would be really cool I think.
This one was in a cloud forest in Costa Rica.

Nice shot! Judging from the color, and the size of the abdomen, I'd say this tarantula had molted recently.... like in the 24-48 hours before you came across it. New world tarantulas are fairly docile. I have 2 different species now, and am looking to get 3 more.

interesting! I definitely did not know that. It did seem pretty docile, as well.
I would like to have a tarantula, but I don't think I could get over my fear of other spiders enough. For some reason I dont hate bigger spiders as much.

I've got a life-long fascination with anything of 6 or more legs. I'm not scared of spiders, but I do have a healthy respect for them.

hehe thanks. it wasnt coming at me, otherwise I can tell you right now that I would have been running in the opposite direction! This guy was just chilling, even with our group like crowding around him, so I was able to get up close for a shot.

that's cool, knowing me i'd still be staring at it and taking pictures if it was coming at me until someone draged me away or somthing lol. hey mabye it was a clostrophobic(sp?) spider and it was haveing a panic attack from all the people so that's why it wasn't moving eh? lol ok i'll stop now

haha normally hate spiders and that would be my reaction but this one I wasnt too scared of for some reason.... maybe because it was so big and lazy that it kinda cancelled out some of the fear... i dunno *shrugs*

I hate the little fuckers too. Somehow I wasnt really scared of this one though. It was big and slow moving, so I just zoomed to like 70mm and got in pretty close. If it were a smaller spider that would like jump on me I never would have done it...
