Description Still taking a short break from my fan story, i decided to give a little known DC comics villain team a slight overhaul and a new member. The group are known as the Extremists, created back in 1990 they were an exceptionally powerful and dangerous group of villains hailing from a another dimension where they had obliterated all life on their Earth. Coming into conflict with the Justice League Europe they proved more than a match for the team, being stopped only when it was revealed that they were in fact only robot duplicates of the original Extremists who died with the rest of humanity and were switched off.

A more recent version of the group in the late 2000's were more akin to anti-heroes waging a war against an oppressive state though their methods were just as violent and extreme, this group hailed from 'Earth 8', this version of the group was actually much more interesting.

Much like Marvel Comics 'Squadron Supreme' is a 'homage' to DC characters, this DC group bear similarities to several Marvel villains, with the exception of the female character at the front that i have added myself.

The 3 group members from left to right at the front are ;

Gorgon - Comparable to Marvels Dr Octopus, the Gorgon is a scientist and has multiple tentacles and is physically quite strong and durable. His Earth 8 incarnation suffers from multiple personalities, which resulted with him tragically losing his lover to one of his more murderous persona's without even realising it.

Divine - My addition to the group, Divine was a clone of Powergirl and featured in the Judd Winnick run of DC's Powergirl Comic and was her physical equal. She was created in 2010.

Tracer - Comparable to Marvels Sabertooth, i altered his appearance to an approximation of Sabertooths movie appearance. Strong, durable, with remarkable healing and tracking abilities. Unlike his purely evil robotic version the Earth 8 version was similar to a Wolverine, being an unwilling subject for a military experiment.

And at the back are the 3 heavyweights of the group from left to right they are ;

Dreamslayer - Comparable to Marvels Dormammu. Arguably The most powerful of all the extremists the demonic entity Dreamslayer was in the original story the only member who wasn't a robotic duplicate, and played a part in the fall of the Justice League International/Europe in the story 'Breakdowns', when possessing the body of Maxwell Lord, Dreamslayer used Lord's mind influencing powers to dominate several of the Leagues most powerful members including the Martian Manhunter, Powergirl, Rocket Red and Fire.

The Earth 8 version was similar, being a demon that required a host body, the original host was a weak willed individual, before his sister, a much stonger willed individual, took the demonic entity into herself and tried to put it to good use ever since. She also entered a relationship with Tracer after she joined the group.

Lord Havok - Comparable to Marvels Dr Doom. A genius in a powered armoured suit, Lord Havok is the leader of the Extremists. His armour allows him to fire energy blasts, extend blades, siphon energy of all forms to increase his power levels and provide him comparable physical might to rival Captain Atom ( so roughly Superman/Martian Manhunter/Black Adam strength ). There have been several Lord Havoks, the robot duplicate, the Earth 8 version and Maxwell Lord, who briefly assumed the identity in the mid 1990's, with the only real difference being their goals.

Dr Diehard - Comparable to Magneto. The robotic duplicate Dr Diehard was little more than a typical cape swirling villain, while the later Earth 8 version was more interesting, being more a magnetic powered 'Professor X' than a 'Magneto' who sought initially a peaceful co-existence with the authorities until his daughter died when in one of the meta human internment camps.

If i ever finish the current fan story, i'd like to feature the Extremists in a story with them more as Anti-heroes than as planet destroying maniacs. Also i think Divine fits in rather nicely with the group and kind of makes it a reflection of sorts to this Justice League picture

I would like to see the Extremists again. And Divine too. Even, I would not dislike if  DC made Divine an earth 3 Supergirl.

Wow!

Hope to see you use these villains against Karen and Terra and her new JL companions in your stories. Divine vs Powergirl is something I've wanted to see for a long time. A villain who can really go toe-to-toe with Kara, and be devious, cunning, ruthless and sadistic as well. When Maxwell Lord created her in the Judd Winnick, I thought for sure DC would do more stories in that line, but then came the new 52 and PeeGee's revised origin and the concept was abandoned.

This slightly altered group of Super villains are intended for my next story once i finish my current one. I'm going to try and tie it in to the Powergirl story that featured Divine and Maxwell Lord

They look great. This was one of my favorite storylines in the JLE run. The Extremists really squashed our heroes, but good! I quickly got over the fact that they were pastiches of marvel's baddies, DC quickly made them their own.

Thanks

I agree, i felt they fitted nicely as DC villains, but i think they have been a little underused since their introduction.
