Well, it wasn't my idea firstly
and secondly I really doubt that Pink Diamond didn't end up regretting her actions. She acted like a teen, headstrong and impulsive, but she had good intentions.
I'm not saying she's innocent, or that you should compare Varian to Pink, I'm just offering up my thoughts.
