Description
I thought this Muir's Corella looked so cheeky as he peered through the branches of the tree.wanted to know if these were Bare Eyed or Goffin Cockatoos. As I didn't know the answer I search for pictures of both and found that it looked closer to the bare eyed than the other.
This shows the eye detail than the other pics in my gallery.

This is a good shot with them against the blue sky and the brown branches of the tree. Almost looks 3-D when in full view too.

Hi Olga, The Corella's are slowly heading back to their winter feeding and breeding grounds, so we can say goodbye until next year when they will be bringing back even more babies I still have more pictures of them to add to my gallery, but I have to get my message box answered first and that might take me quite a while

That was me that wanted to know
I can see the difference now between them.. They do look more like bare eyeds than goffins.. I hope things work out there for them. I hate that they want to harm them.. It bothers me that people decide to do things like this when they move in on an animals territory. years from now there wont be any wildlife..
So sad

Silly, silly me. I'm glad you picked up the message though
The Corellas are slowly moving back to their winter breeding grounds to the forests with big, old trees. So I'm only seeing the occasional birds right now. I look forward to seeing them again next year when they come back to annoy the farmers and vineyards. I still have more photos of them to post, but have to clear my message box first

Beautiful shot Eve. What dear little birds these are! Their personality is very evident in your photo. Has your neighbour stopped rattling her sabre at them yet?

The one lady still had a complaint when i saw her last week. She said that a farmer she knows has lived in the area for over 80 years and he had never seen them in the area until last year. So I pointed out that I have lived in the area for only 9 years and I've seen them every one of those years. Granted, the first few years I only saw a few flying along the creek line at the bottom of the valley.
She was insisting they don't belong in this area, so I explained to her.... Before the white man moved in, this area was covered in huge trees. Then the white man cleared the land for farming and the birds had to retreat back to the forests. As time went on, even more trees were cut down and as Corella's nest in old trees with nesting holes, they lost much of their nesting grounds and their number went down to about 100 birds. Thankfully, we became more aware of the birds plight and logging was stopped in some areas.
A count was done on Wednesday, covering the area where where they have been seen this year. I was unable to help with the count as we had an appointment in Albany, but the two young ladies who came to count the birds in Frankland, found none. they are now slowly heading back to their winter breeding grounds. However, I did get a message to say that about 9000 Corella's were counted over the whole area. There needs to be 10,000 before they can be taken off the rare and endangered list.

Thank you Joe So many of my birds have been photographed against grey cloud recently. We have had such a lot of that weather lately, but the clouds need to drop some rain to make us happy.
