Description
Commission from Otakon 2012; Pencil.I could draw Hermione Granger all day. When asked for a commission of her with Ron, I immediately jumped at it (suck it, Comfort!
She's such an adorable bad-ass. Which, of course, is my favorite kind.

Awesome. I went to the Harry Potter Studio Tour London Yesterday, so Potter is very in my mind. This just works great.

LOL that is such a great picture! I'd like to see how you do your sketches like this from start to finish. Do you use pencil and then go to ink? Or do you just directly start with ink (I think I'd be too scared to do that).

I don't use ink. I sketch in a light rough with a 4h lead pencil, then use a kneaded eraser to lightly erase that until I can just barely see my layout lines, and finally go over it with a B lead mechanical pencil for final lines. That's all.

Wow, seriously? Hmm...these are REALLY clean. Mine always end up so messy if I just use pencil.

It took a lot of years of teaching myself to be this clean. It's a product of will and training.

Seriously dude! This is awesome. you really are good at getting characters to look like the real people. I gotta try and get better at that. What the secret?!

Having to do it a bunch. I'm still very hit-or-miss with likenesses. I just try and find a few key features on the face that are definitive for that person - with Hermione it's the shape of her mouth, the arch of her eyebrows, and a little of her nose - and focus on those. If you can hit those features well enough, it'll be close at least. Oh-- and the hairline. You'd be surprised how much somebody's hairline helps define the shape of their face.

Thanks for the tips bro. I'll keep them in mind.
Honestly? the hairline never occurred to me!
