Description I can't even remember when I started this. It was a long time ago, at least three years. Originally I wanted to include it with the Best of SenshiStock book but I never developed it as much as I wanted to for the book. Instead of keeping it unfinished forever on my harddrive where no one would see it, I finally just decided to upload it here. It's really incomplete but I hope the basic stuff I talk about will be helpful.

The initial pose used is

Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards can be found at DrawRight.com . (It's a great book, really amazing.)

I really hope that some of you get a lot of use from this! Huge image is huge.

You can use other techniques in combination with this one (like using balls and boxes for different parts of the body). Use all the tools available to you to make the best art you can make!

This is exactly how I draw! And, I love that book. Coincidence?
This tutorial is perfect, and I wish every artist could be exposed to it, or at least the teachings in it. This is great.

I thank you really really much about these lessons. I hadn't imagine how much putting the gesture right way before evrything would help me to get the body right. It just seems stupid to me now, but I hadn't really thought much about it and it was definitely missing steps. But how could I know before I read it somewhere ?
Thank you so muuuuch for pointing out the obvious which was hiding in all other drawing books not being clear enough.

A truly amazing tutorial, great for refreshing what I learnt from my Betty Edwards workbook.

However, I'm still wondering about something. You mention "active thought" is required but I've always had the habit of daydreaming while sketching.

I even posted a question on Y!A but it seems it's normal [link] What's your opinion on this

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AdorkaStock In reply to DanteSmilodon [2012-06-13 17:37:42 +0000 UTC]

I think both active thought and daydreaming can work, it might just depend on the artist. I have to stop and think "Am I drawing what I THINK I see or what's actually there?" in order to get myself to really focus sometimes. Other times I totally space out. xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DanteSmilodon In reply to AdorkaStock [2012-06-13 17:47:03 +0000 UTC]

Heh, I don't really think about my drawing when I'm working on it. I just daydream about people I wanted to talk to, etc. Well, that's for the coloring part mostly, drawing the gesture and expression should have my complete attention.

Thanks again for an amazing tutorial.

most of these piccys are from side to side, well i dont know how to explain it. but like do you happen to have or know of a tutorial that would have like... part of the thing infront and part in back? like... umm... someone pointing to the camera with their other arm pointing downward behind them or something. i mean it doesn't have to be a pose like that, just LIKE that. i need something like this (cause this helped me a lot.) theres a picture here thats almost like what im talking about. the very top before you explained the shoulders and hips. it was the top middle one where the hands are stretched to the front.

i need to learn more like that. >.<
