Description
Work in progress photographs for a traditionally constructed gilt panel painting (albeit with a very nontraditional subject.) In order of Top Left to Bottom Right: Initial design, panel prior to gilding (unfortunately, the artist does not have pictures of the intermediate stages,) after the first layer of gold leaf, after the final layer of gold leaf, after the first layer of paint, and after the second layer of paint. The panel is close to completion as of the bottom Right photograph, though minor corrections in both the paint and gilt layers are planned.
Gold leaf overlaid on red clay bole, egg tempera overlaid on gesso, overlaid on linen, overlaid on an American Poplar panel.
Light photographic editing was performed with Gimp 2.82.

Thank you very much! It was a very interesting project, and I am glad that the results are visually appealing! I still need to finalize some the work, though. I have not had time to do it yet.

Aw, thank you very much, and thank you for the "favoriting" these pieces! As always, it means a lot to me!
I am still kicking myself over not documenting the application of gesso and and red clay bole. I guess I was too focused on actually getting it done at the time, rather than documenting the process.

Oh wow, this is really awesome! The gold and blues work wonderfully together, and the care taken with the gold leaf is obvious. I do hope to see a finished product sometime. Especially now that I'm actually subscribed to you whoops

Oh my! Thank you so much! It means a lot, coming from you!
I am afraid the finished product will not look significantly different...It is mainly just touching up some minor details. They are hard to see, but there are a few small holes and scratches in the gold where the bole shows through, and some areas--particularly on the blanket--where the paint has been poorly applied, though that is pretty much it. I am hoping to address both before the end of the week.

You're welcome! I actually enjoy a lot of your work, even if a lot of it are studies. There's a certain soul in your work that is very pleasant and expressive.
Those small touch-ups will make a suprising difference, I'm sure. Regardless, it will be wonderful to be able to see it completed!
