I drew this over a year ago too. It is supposed to be some sort of alien statue. There is a bowl with fruit (that I decided not to color later, I just couldn't get it to look right). The futhark runic script on the bottom is vivasitas mors aeternitas (latin for life force, death, eternity). This is still one of my favorites (maybe because this one took about forever). I really liked that movie too - and I remember the gates quite well.
Maybe I'm just getting old, but it seems like everything was so much more creative in the 80s - people used to care about imagination, now everyone just seems to be obsessed with office jobs and coffee
Anyway, the Neverending Story was actually one of the first movies I remember seeing in a theater (that, the Dark Crystal, and Return of the Jedi).
I'm thankful every day that my mind was immersed in so much 'pointless' fantasy back then
Thanks for the comment (my mind is pondering the idea of (small) tattoo commissions - but I should really spend my time on classes for now - some day I'll have the major pieces of my life together though, and it's something I'd consider).

four, actually... this is a couple years old, and I hadn't gotten complete grasp of using photoshop yet. Now I can adjust the different layers of pictures so that it's almost impossible to tell the are four (usually four, some are two) pieces. It's not the scan though, it's the touch up (grain removal etc) afterward that takes so much time (sometimes hours), so it seems like a little too much work to rescan it. Glad you like the pic though

ya i have trouble scanning big pieces and fixing it up in ps to remove the lines it creates.
