Description Back with another bunch of doodles of human individuals in history just before I upload another video! Hope you enjoy! Again, I'm not striving for accuracy with these depictions, I'm just trying to have fun and make them visually interesting, but I do look at the source material a bit while making them.

From Left to Right:

Vilhonneur Grotto portrait ~ 27,000 years ago
I learned about this guy while making my cave-paintings video a while back. This doodle is based off of a 27,000 year old cave-painting or etching on the wall of a cave located near Angoulême, France. The cave-painting is incredibly simplistic and only contains what have been interpreted as two dots for "eyes", a slit for a mouth, and a triangle-like nose. This sketch is believed by some to be the earliest depiction of a human face or a "portrait". It's a little abstract or even childish and almost Picasso-like and I always have wondered: Who exactly was the person who decided to doodle it on the wall and was he or she trying to make it accurate? The VGp is interesting in the sense it is among some of the few Stone Age depictions of a human. As I have discussed before, humans for some reason (possibly religious or superstitious) did not like to illustrate themselves in artwork (especially rock art in Europe) in the Stone Age and we really don't have any idea why. (Reference: The Scream)

La Brea Woman - 10,220–10,250 years ago
The La Brea Tar Pits of Los Angles, CA in the United States are famous for their absurd amount of well-preserved fossil discoveries. The tar pits seemed to have been an extremely common "trap" where prehistoric animals got stuck in the tar and slowly died with the tar preserving their remains exquisitely. I got the chance to visit the museum and see the crazy amount of animal remains discovered from Direwolves to Smilodons to Bison. However, one of the few animals that are lacking at the site are humans. The remains of only one human have ever been found in the pits and these remains belonged to a young woman (likely between 17-25 years old at the time of her death). She seems to have been ritually and intentionally buried at the site for ceremonial purposes as her remains were alongside those of a domesticated dog (likely the now almost extinct genetically Native American breed). Walking around in the museum in Los Angles, one might start to notice that La Brea Woman is strangely largely absent in the museum... well this was intentional. La Brea Woman just like Kennewick Man has sparked controversy centered around who "owns" or has the "rights" to the remains. Various Native American organizations have claimed that under the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act any Native American remains belong to them and they posses the right to rebury the remains and refuse scientific study of them. La Brea Woman for this purpose has been hidden from the public eye. (Reference: Camie Utsushimi)

Mask of la Roche-Cotard ~ 33,000 years ago (maybe earlier)
Possibly beating the Vilhonneur Grotto Portrait in age as the earliest depiction of a human face is the "Mask" of La Roche-Cotard or the "Mousterian Protofigurine". The "Mask" is an artifact of flint and bone discovered at the entrance of the La Roche-Cotard cave in France. It is claimed that the artifact depicts the upper part of a human face with a bone pushed through a hole in the stone to vaguely resemble human eyes. The human face interpretation has been controversial and it may very well be simply wishful thinking. Due to the Mask's age if true, the Mask would have been made by a Neanderthal artist rather than Sapien one.  (Reference: Kosei Tsuburaba (Because I liked his weird Goat-Eyes))

For the most part I kind of do these for fun but I’m definitely trying to get some use out of them as well

Thank you so much
I know I love the goat eyes too XD and I love the scruffy hair too and I'm super happy with how La Brea's hair turned out (its supposed to be that weird thing oil does where it creates a rainbow of colors in its surface: www.scienceabc.com/wp-content/… )
Anyways thanks! I'm happy you enjoyed them! I'm happy that they all have their own unique personalities as that was my intention

Odds are it’s a replica, they also might have changed it since I went. The whole hiding La Brea thing was something of the early 2000s around the same time as Kennewick things might have died down a bit since then

XD that was intentional! He's more of "The Boredom" than The Scream

Evodolka In reply to aGentlemanScientist [2018-08-25 02:15:45 +0000 UTC]

i wouldn't say bored, i would say something else, like true shock that is far beyond screaming, like seeing a horror so nightmarish all he can do is star
