“Sir,” said the badger one day, “I saw that you were touching a very beautiful little box, for what reason?”“Dear friend," replied the old man. “When I became a hermit I gave up everything. Friends, like you, have been helping me. But it is customary to put coins into the holy shrine so that we can pray for our souls. I thought it would be easy to detach the gold with which that box is lined, but it is impossible and I have given it up.”
