Description
“ Trees bend forth from the thicket. Splinters break in the air and pour from the earth. Hollow hoof beats breath rhythm into the forest. Vines twist from the shadows cast by a mist. They are coming, the keepers of these woods. Seasons follow in their footsteps.”It feels good to draw a tree animal again. This is a concept I’ve been working on for a long time. I wanted to show the vascular tissue that trees have, not that it is entirely accurate.
Vascular plants have two main types of tissue. Phloem carries nutrients (such as sugars and other organic compounds) throughout the plant. Xylem basically carries water up the plant and helps it to transpire (water evaporates off of leaves) so that water can continually move up and throughout the plant which aids in photosynthesis. All of the twisty lines are my creative interpretation of the internal structure of vascular plants.
Mediums used: Watercolor wash with acrylics and prismacolor pencils on Bristol board.
Enjoy!

Gorgeous!
And I hope you do not mind me saying, but it does remind me of the forest spirit in Princess Mononoke by Hayao Miyazaki.
Which is actually a compliment from me, because I am in love with his art and his movies.
Great work!

I love your tree animals. I am totally inspired by what you try to achieve with your art. (Accidentally typed heart, suppose it's fitting? )

Thank you! I really had a lot of fun with this one. I'm trying to experiment with X-ray type concepts to show the inside of organic things

Oh I do so love this piece. Watercolor is one of my favorite mediums and I just find the texture it gives to the "wood" haha.

Absolutely gorgeous. I love the freedom of movement you've captured, and how the whorls of the wood and branches contribute to the feeling of motion.
