This is amazing! The variance between hard and soft implied lines is gorgeous. I love Watercolour and hope that someday I can paint as well as you do with it!

Thank you so much! It's a lovely effect that you can create with watercolor using wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques. However, it's a tricky medium, it flows the way it wants to and requires to do everything fast. I can't say that I've completely mastered it yet.

You are very welcome <3 I LOVE Watercolour exactly for that purpose β it has SO many lovely effects. Itβs the most versatile medium, I think. Are there any sort of exercises or practice methods that you tend to use? I like to paint landscapes (storms *_*) as a practice.Β

If you're interested in painting landscapes, I'll recommend you Alwyn Crawshaw's books about watercolor. I've started with those books and they helped me a lot. There're many useful tips. Standard exercises include washes and making gradients but I would recommend you to watch artists paint on Youtube. It's very helpful to watch and remember what they do, what brushes and additional things they use (like paper napkins and toothbrushes). Also, don't mix more than 3 pigments at once because it will give you dirt. And some paints are already made from two or three pigments.

I never gave much thought to lighthouses, but found myself spending half an hourΒ yesterday listening to a podcast about one.

Thank you! Lighthouses are used for navigation so they could have a symbolic meaning of guiding light that leads you from danger to safety and from despair to the place you're meant to be.

Simply perfect! I know what you mean regarding the texture on papers, however I feel it adds to the feel of the sea on this one. I tend to use Cold pressed (not) grain finish for watercolours, but if adding in mixed media such as fineliners use a similar weight Mixed media paper, which still has some movement in the paper but is far smoother and doesn't pick up the light when scanning/ photographing.

Thank you very much!Β Sometimes the texture can be beneficial for the painting and sometimes it makes things worse. I know that different artists prefer different types of paper.Β My works tend to be rather small and full of details so I get best results on hot-pressed paper. I haven't tried mixed media paper yet, it may be an interesting experience.
