It's been almost a year since my last drawing of Loopy and, to tell you the truth, I felt the need to sketch him again right after mentioned Loopy in our small chat. I was just curious how he'll come out after almost a one year break and... I must say I'm positively surprised.
Loopy de Loop is a forgotten Hanna-Barbera wolf, who instead of following a stereotypical "big bad wolf" scenario, is gentle and kind, and always strives to make good deeds. I like to call him a Hanna-Barbera version of Pepe le Pew. The main difference between them is that Loopy doesn't pursue romance. His main goal is to break the old stereotype about wolves being malicious.

The reason for him not being so well known is because he is actually featured in theatrical short cartoons and wasn't on TV too often, but the complete set of shorts is available via Warner Home Video as a Manufacture On Demand title via their website or the US Amazon site.

That's right. I don't know why and who decided to make a theatrical series of his cartoons when the era of theatrical cartoons was about to be ended. I guess he could be more recognizable if he simply had a TV show.

They were made from the late 50's to the mid 60's, just when theatrical shorts were becoming less frequently made.
I just found out myself that the shorts were compiled into the Loopy de Loop TV show that aired in 1969.

This is an awesome sketch I love all the added detail you put into his fur, muzzle, and cap. It makes him all the more adorable!

Yes, for me he's one of the most forgotten and undervalued H-B characters. I'd never heard of him if it wasn't for a one post on a blog about classic animation. Even Hokey is more recognizable than him, and he's still not a well-known H-B character.

He really is, he was a rare gem of HB productions. His first big main run was only in the theaters before a feature film, he was the first and only H-B cartoon to run in theaters after Bill Hanna and Joseph Barbara left MGM (where they did Tom and Jerry) to make their own company. Only to later have his shorts shown on Boomerang for some time, albeit I think it was somewhat rare. I found out about Loopy, whilst researching into the different incarnations of the "Big Bad Wolf", and I stumbled upon his name.
Hokey is also underrated but is recognizable given his appearances alongside other big name HB characters like Huckleberry Hound and Yogi Bear. Having his own segment on the Huckleberry Hound Show and appearing as a background character in many animated films where a large sum of HB characters gathered together. Unfortunately, Loopy hasn't had such luck. Although he did make a minuscule appearance in "Yo-Yo-Yogi" a series where Yogi and friends are mostly adolescents with some being their adult selves (Hokey is here too), where Loopy works as a chef in a mall restaurant I believe or something to that effect.

I really do, he's a close favorite of mine, I sympathize with him a lot. I always enjoy and want to help others and do "the good deed", but sometimes I tend to do more damages than actually helping.
