Description You can crit in a comment too, you know |D

And a temporary note to #Animal-RedLINNERS
It's not supposed to be a cat or anything, I meant it to be a lemur. The hybrid thingy is a joke, though I think I'll keep it. The point is, it's the thought that counts and the thought was lemur. And I had a major anatomy fail... XD
I think it's either the head, face or the paws? Or... definitely the face XD Or I'm just paranoid? >.>

[edit]I join groups for the crit, you know D;[/edit]

This is a WIP, but I think it's okay for public display. I still have to redefine the fingers and ears. I'd appreciate some suggestions on how to go about this, thank you~

lol, ya its definatly in the face. the snout is just a tad too long, makes it look wolfish. the front arms seem rather big too, but I did see the "lemur" look in the thing, so its not all bad I guess. he could be a new species! A Luper! XD

It makes sense, his first form being a fox. Puka can turn into horses/dogs/monkeys ;D

Awesome fur - it looks so soft! ^.^

I'm not sure about his left paw - the fingers look like they'd have to be bent uncomfortably far back at the knuckle to be in that position ...but I don't know anything about lemurs, so feel free to ignore me XP

This does look great so far though

No comment is useless. If something looks off, it usually is. Or if not, should be done in another way. For the sake of the viewer ;D

Thank you ;D I was taught by =StrydingSoul pretty much, but seems I've divered and made my own style by now.

It seems the most people mention is the lack of detail of fur on the limbs. And... fixing the size of the head, which I usually make too small XD And the eye, which I should make like a real lemur's. So it should be finished quickly. Although I'm considering making the fur like I did previously with a fox furr, line by line right over the softshade

Koi-Lantern In reply to AkaTsukiSakuya [2010-03-28 01:45:39 +0000 UTC]

ah I see. Yeah, the head is too small, but cool I can't wait to see it finished. Yeah, that's how I color fur too, line by line...but it turns out more like clumps of fur.

Having a guide helps. People usually make strokes with the gradient brush, but that didn't help me XD The soft-shade first seems to, although it takes twice the time, and then four times that time to make the details >w>

Thank you.

It's not done until I feel it XD I usually feel there's something missing or off, then find it a month later, which I then regret. If I put it up for crit, people will find it before I do ;D

Besides, my anatomy is so fail XD

So sometimes, the crit helps, but I don't feel like redoing. Sometimes I leave it, but I start making a new work with the same subject and better anatomy.

AkaTsukiSakuya In reply to profoundlyscrewedup [2010-03-26 19:27:01 +0000 UTC]

The name is rather a charm--good luck charm. It's just to remind me that I have to work harder on my Maths and that I can do it. And, being an engineering student, that I can't run away. XD

I might have chosen something more philosophical, but this serves me better.

I love Archemedes too. He's the one who ran naked through the streets shrieking Eureka, isn't he? And the one who refused to stop working on a math problem even when invading soldiers burst into his home.

Tell me how you got the nice fur texture. I am still getting the hang of my bamboo tablet; I'm more used to working on paper, but have been practicing on digital work lately.

If you take a look I put up the resources I use (how to make the fur is in =StrydingSoul 's Stream, which is linked in my journal, right in the header ;D). It's still under construction, but you can check it out anyway ;D And maybe even join in if you like the idea.

First of all- I must say your fur detail is incredible!

I think if you added a tad mor muscle detail to the hind legs it might help a little. First thing that jumps out at me though is the contrast between heavy fur detail and no fur detail on the legs and fingers. I think you should add more fur on those parts and short fur on the muzzle.

The hands look fine to me (but I'm not too good on judging anatomy for hands. xD; )
I will say the the back leg- the one that is barely visible- may need to be scooted in further towards the other legs, but Idk.

The head looks a little small as well, and the inner ears may need extra detail.

I'd say all in all- you have it pretty much down. The only things that need fixing are just detailwork. Amazing job on this!

AkaTsukiSakuya In reply to InvaderFan77 [2010-03-26 19:23:31 +0000 UTC]

Thank you ;D

I'm not sure if lemurs show muscle under all their fur, but I'll sure give it a shot!

I know >w> Not many people do primates and such. That's why I submitted it to a club, in hopes that someone might know XD

InvaderFan77 In reply to AkaTsukiSakuya [2010-03-27 04:10:25 +0000 UTC]

Idk.. I read that it was a hybrid- so I just suggested it. Since originally it was a fox, right?

Yea. That's a good idea- submitting to groups increases the number of people who see your work and increases the amount of those who comment- which means Critique! Personally- thats what I love most about this site- getting crit from all kinds of artists!

It's kind of a mistake I'm keeping. ;D But I would like to improve on animals that aren't wolves P= Rodents, lemurs, non-wolves (by which I mean maned wolves and other canids).

Yep. The only other place I get good crit usually end up with it buried under posts XD

Sorry for the delay, had class ^^'

Anyway, I think you've definitely improved on your fur texture. Especially on the back and neck, it looks very plush and fuzzy. Maybe try even detailing it more? Getting in there with a tiny little brush and drawing some of the individual hairs to emphasive the shading and texture, perhaps. Fur is a pain to draw, so I admire your patience x3

I wish I could crit the anatomy but primates aren't my speciality haha. Looks good from what I see, I like the hans :3

AkaTsukiSakuya In reply to Kaylink [2010-03-26 13:03:26 +0000 UTC]

Thanks >w<

Actually, this took me only four hours or so to shade. And yes, that's a relatively little amount of time. XD

Okies, so detailing the fur. Got it ;D

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Vinnora In reply to ??? [2010-03-25 17:42:26 +0000 UTC]

I really like how you did the fur. I would suggest though that you make the furless areas more defined? Perhaps made the shading more defined? The quality of those areas seem a little unbalanced put next to the fur.

Other than that, I'd say you did a good job.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AkaTsukiSakuya In reply to Vinnora [2010-03-25 17:56:06 +0000 UTC]

First crit-comment. Yay >w< Thanks!

Okies. Howso? With short defined fur, maybe? I've never been good at detailing no-fur areas, like between the paw toes and such, so I tend to short-fur them. I was trying to do like everyone else, that just define it but = lolfail XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vinnora In reply to AkaTsukiSakuya [2010-03-25 18:45:02 +0000 UTC]

Short fur could work. Perhaps you could also use more solid brushes for shading. I have trouble with these things, too. I just think that the simple soft brush/airbrush doesn't always give te best results.

I'm sure there are some texture tools out there that can help give it a more fleshy/scaly look if you ever want to take that approach.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AkaTsukiSakuya In reply to Vinnora [2010-03-25 19:18:16 +0000 UTC]

Nah, I like to do things from scratch, no textures or patterns ;D

I have tried a double-shading before. First like this soft-shade, then a hard brush stroke-by-stroke right over that.
