This is a sketch of my villian character as a cub - Dominic/Damien... Before I do a stylized redition of my characters, I always do a realism one first to keep me closer to the way they look... I used to not, but with my slightly varied style I'm going to be using (which you've seen snips up but I haven't done a real picture of yet...maybe the ethopianwolf/tenki one could count sort of), I find it quite useful.
