Description
Shit title, I know, but just saying "Instert Animal" Kaiju is getting old.I ain't having a great night... in fact the last week or two has been virtual shit. Save for a few movies, a few happy moments with some friends and stuff... bad month. just a bad, bad, terrible, loathsome and black month. At least I ain't having computer paranoia. I lose sleep over that shit more then anything else...
Moving on; trying to distract myself with stuff like Youtube and drawing... and since a lot of YouTube videos are "Script is busy or not working" messages on a lot of videos(seriously, what the fuck?) I been drawing most of the day.
Got this idea then to do a tortoise kaiju. I'm gonna say it flat out: There are tons of turtle kaiju. I checked. None really are that great, nor that simple... most are nice. Seemed save enough to dive into concepts for a turtle kaiju of sorts.
Generally, its a tortoise that walks on its hind legs. Big, huge, heavyweight thing with a lot of weight behind it. Looks nasty, don't he? But he isn't. He's a grouch and somewhat apathetic(nothing like Grimm though) toward everything and eats as much plant material as he can manage. He's really strong, and can probably hold his own against even the strongest monsters... save for Typhoon, but thats cause Typhoon works on a subatomic scale.
Where he goes is another thing. May be very well in this current arc on the Galapagos Isles. Or not. Right now I'm just throwing the ball and see who says what on the concept.
And if I hear one Gamera remark... then I'll send Mr Popo to your house.
I'm waiting, Maggots.
good love the abridged cartoons...
Take a swing, folks.

Perhaps. Perhaps not. He's meant to be a recent mutation, so he's no more then 100 years of age.

Cool turtle kaiju. His posture gives him quite a brutish feel.
Now I'm not going to make any Gamera remarks, but out of curiosity, who is Mr. Popo?

He looks the part of the grouchy brute, alright. I like him.
I agree with Ren though. He needs just a little something to complete him. Those jaws... they looks like they could eat freakin' rocks... perhaps you could do something with that? Liiiiiiike....
Ooh!
Gaining the properties of whatever he eats. Or maybe he could petrify himself. Like a reverse Vastrato. Instead of flexible, he's immobile. Making him a literal 'master of disguise' would be funny. The consumption-absorption idea would work pretty well with that. Maybe camouflage of some sort...
Just spitballing here.

hm.. eatting rocks would probably help.
But the eating and taking on the characteristics of what he eats is already taken by a sea slug kaiju I got in mind.

Ah. Oh well.
Hooow abooouuuut... he can absorb strikes, build up the sponged force, and then unleash it all at once in a super-punch!

Vastrato pretty much does that.

I'm sure there are plenty of great turtle kaiju. Tora is pretty good, if I do say so myself.
I'm a little confused if this turtle is supposed to be bipedal or not. Which is it?

Bipedal? If he is, his front legs could use a little work. They make him look more quadrapedal.

"There are tons of turtle kaiju. I checked. None really are that great..."
I'll spare you the Gamera remarks, but I will recall something along similar lines: the Akantortoise. Remember him?
As for this brute, the overall look works fine, but it's rather plain-looking. Galapagos tortoises have large, thick scales along their legs that act like armor plating: a beast like this could certainly benefit from such a feature. The jaws look good, the beak looks rather placoderm-like and quite capable of lopping off leaves and limbs alike. Some prehistoric tortoises sported horns and tail spikes, so some of those features could work on him: the tail, short as it may be, could have bony spikes or a club simply for balancing out the monster's massive upper body.
Power-wise, I have thought of, for some reason or another, a rather odd butterfly-style metamorphosis capability: the kaiju starts out relatively small- or average-sized for a kaiju, and looks rather bland as well; however, once the monster has acquired enough biomass through its feeding sprees, it finds a safe location, retracts into its shell, and goes into suspended animation for a couple weeks. During this time, the kaiju's sealed shell acts like an airtight vessel; within it, the monster's tissues are reconfigured into a larger, more complex form which, after some time, erupts from the old shell as a scaled-up, more exaggerated version of the kaiju's previous form. This is vaguely similar to how butterflies metamorphose, but it's not as drastic a change in anatomy. Long story short, the monster doesn't gradually mature like most vertebrates, but in fits and spurts like amphibians do, depending on how much he's eaten lately.

Yeah he looks plain... Akantortoise sounds familiar.
Horns could work..
The metamorphosis could also work. Maybe. Certainly something else.

Indeed.
Methinks coiling ram horns would suffice, or perhaps a skull dome like that of a muskox/pachycephalosaur.
Glad you like the idea.

Not sure what else to throw on him though. Maybe something with the shell.. or make shells on his arms and legs.
