Description Saffron Crocus in full bloom. The red strands are what are dried in used in pinch-amounts in cookery to produce a delicate flavour and bright yellow colour.

Yeah they don't need much space luckily. I think the pot-grown ones are a bit happier than the ones suffering being pulled out by dogs and having to live in heavy clay soil at my allotment.

I only noticed one flower out of either group this year but I might have been too busy to notice the other blooms.
