This might just be another manifestation of my terminal un-hipness, but I just don't understand "slash".I'm sure at one time it must have been a fascinating novelty which deviated from the norm, but now it's just everywhere...and I definitely think the novelty is starting to wear off (it's a similar story with anime). Maybe it's because I've never been romantically involved with anyone, but I just don't get it. In one HP spinoff, I found myself thinking "Sheesh, with all this non-stop lovemaking, when the heck do these kids find time to study!?"
Some of these "pairings" make no sense to me either...most of the time it's two heterosexuals who barely take any notice of each other or hate each other...then one day they suddenly confess their secret love for each other? What in the GSD's name?? And I just don't get the attraction to the whole slash phenomenon? Why do people write it? Is it for the same reason that a dog licks his [region best not mentioned in polite conversation], because he can?
And more importantly, why is it almost always two guys?
*These are two of my oldest lioness characters, Vidole and Kigeni. They were inspired by TLK, but drawn semi-realistically here. These two were very close friends from the beginning, and they both have certain..."atypical" female traits. Vidole hates males, Kigeni has a partial mane. They are partly inspired by our two female cats, who also are very close friends (they groom each other and sometimes fall asleep "hugging" each other with their forelegs).

I LOVE slash, for the simple reason that it's HOT. One just gets a shiver up their spine that doesn't happen with het or even femslash. But to each their own. I just don't think it's "getting old". I've been reading slash for about 8 years now, and yeah, there is a HELL of alot of bad fanfiction out there, but you find that with all pairings, and then you find the jem that makes your week. I just don't like it when ppl arn't really indepth into the slash world, read a couple bad fanfics and then make assumptions about all slash. It's an art to find the real good ones but when you do it's like finding a little peice of heaven.

The only "slash" I've enjoyed are Timali's and Audrey's joke pics.

As I understand it, slash is part fetish, part morbid curiousity, and almost entirely the realm of straight, young girls.
I'd much rather people pair characters up with whomever fits their personalities, instead of simply to oogle at gay guys (or, perhaps, to attack them). Hetro-, homo-, a-, bi-, or any other orientation under the sun. Fanfiction isn't much of my bag, mind.

I disagree with your comment about straight, young girls. Everyone who i know that likes slash are gay or bi women in their 20-30's or gay men. It's a major stereotype put on slash fans that no slash fan likes.

Well, that's a pretty easy thing to answer.
It's friggen' hot.
If you don't think so, hey, that's fine. But you see, it's not really all that new. People are just realizing things they never realized before about sexuality. No one ever really took the time to examine homosexuality because it's always been a taboo subject. Only a select few would dare to cross the boundaries. But now that you aren't punished by death for being homosexual/having homosexual feelings, people aren't nearly as afraid to cross those boundaries. The 'homosexual phenomena' isn't new, it's always been there -- just dormant, because of the fact that it's been repressed.
And your picture is pretty. I'm especially fond of how you did the whiskers.

That's probably it, then. I'm usually rarely into anything deemed "hot" by the majority.
I'm pretty asexual in some respects, and I have no problems with homosexuality in general (of course, a lot of it and heterosexuality is a gray area for me), it's just these "pairings" that boggle me.
It seems like the slash philosophy seems to be that if two fictional characters speak more than two words to each other, they are potentially madly in love with each other, even if they are mortal enemies (like Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy, for instance). If it were any two original characters, that would be fine, but warping established characters to satisfy one's own desires is just a weensy bit much. Why can't two guys just be best friends, and nothing more?
It makes me wonder what fanfic writers would do if two formerly straight male characters on a sitcom/drama/what-have-you suddenly confessed their love for each other. Would they pair them up with characters of the opposite gender, just to keep things unpredictable?

Now that you put it...yeah 100%. But I do have lots of male friends who are bi.
And I know what you mean too Akril. I went to FF.net to look at some fics on Disney/Pixar "The Incredibles" and you wouldn't believe how many fic I found where the charaters were acting bi. I also saw a lot of Jimmy Neutron fics like that too and it disgusted me. The charaters in the film/show were straight!

I understand what you mean Akril. I'm not 100% homophobe but 78% homophobe.

Amen, sister. My friend gets into slash alot...and I'm sorry, but two guys kissing really makes me shudder. If that makes me a homophobe, then I'm proud to be one.

Also, there aren't any documented cases of polydactylism (extra toes) in lions either, but it seemed possible to me, since it sometimes occurs in domestic cats (count the toes on Vidole's only visible paw ).

AAAARUGH. I totally agree with you. I hate slash. HATE IT. Yeah, I have nothing against gay people, but puh-leaze, stay true to these characters' personalities!
As for the picture... do female lions sometimes grow manes in the wild?

Thanks!
I'm not sure if there are any documented cases of lionesses with manes. I've heard of male lions with small or nearly nonexistant manes, but I don't know if the reverse ever occurs.

I know what you mean...I read Fanfiction sometimes and, even when written about characters who obviously have a heterosexual love intrest in the show, they're still paired with someone they obviously despise in the show!! Drives me insane...
