Description
April Colors 7/30 - Grisaille
The April Colors website provided this definition : “ Grisaille refers to the technique of building up values using only grays, and then doing washes of color over it to define hues and tones. “
Of coarse I drew another dragon; built up the value in gray scale, and then started overlaying some colors. I didn’t want to completely hide the gray scale either. Over all this was a lot of fun.

Hello, I noticed this art in the many in ProjectComment ! I love dragons and you did this one perfectly. I always adore how some people can make high-detailed semirealistic artwork using just a few lines, so it is still sketchy yet beautiful. I think this is the true skill. The colors work nicely together and the dragon's yellow eye really draws in the viewer. Maybe I would prefer to see the dragon looking at me, but that's really a smal detail I'm not a big fan of the pink colors, however, you made the tones somehow to look great and interesting even for me, I must applaud this too! Also it's very cool to use just a simple pastel color for the background, so it work nicely with the character, the soft shading and everything, it just made my day. Nice doodle indeed!

You're welcome!.
I see you like dragons, or at least reptile animals xD.

Me too!.
Especially those that are mythological and / or Multi-headaches (that is, they have more than one head) XD.

Indeed, and even more so if the heads have separate personalities, regardless of whether they can regenerate or not.
We must remember the Greek Lernean Hydra and the Balaur of Romanian folklore.

Indeed!.
That is, look at the latest incarnation of King Ghidorah in "Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters", where the heads do indeed have different personalities, and where the "dumbest" of the 3 became a meme class.
Well, there are also those that appear to be an amalgam of a snake with a dragon.

In effect, it adds more singularity or "Personality" to said incarnation, worth the redundancy.
Ohh ... the Zmey Goronych !.
Interesting that you know the existence of that multi-headache boy.
And I say the above in reference to the fact that he has almost no art here on DeviantArt, and on the rest of the internet ... well, the representations simply do not do justice to that many-headed boy!
I feel like I was the only one who really did a piece to that dragon that does it justice, being also a fan of Godzilla.
Postscript:
Sometimes I wonder if the Zmey Goronich was "related" to the creation of King Ghidorah ... that is, they look very much like IMHO!

Well, if you are inclined to illustrate the Zmey Gorynych, then go ahead and take the time you need.
I agree with you, even if I am not Russian at all, if you want you make multiple representations with different appearances, such as appearances more attached to the mythological on the one hand and others more attached to the realistic sphere from the biological / scientific point of view XD.

Well, I went ahead and investigated quickly and found this:

Indeed, over 2 years ago I also did my own illustration of the Zmey Gorynych on paper, especially in response to the apparent lack of art on Deviant Art or the Internet in general that would do justice to that dragon.
I say the same with the Romanian mythological dragon called Balaur, which also has multiple heads.
Well, if you have the inclination to illustrate it, then .... go ahead !!.
No one should stop you!
That if, take your time xD.

Wow, fabulous that you also know the Balaur XD.
Well, at one point they were also a kind of fixation for some time when drawing, although that was not something fixed that would last too long. Although I still like to illustrate them, especially if they have more than one head.
It sounds very good from you, the Lenear Hydra and the Japanese Yamata No Orochi are also out there, that although both in the respective myths were snakes, it is not uncommon for people today to present them (especially Orochi) as dragons or as a fusion between Dragon and Snake.
I agree with you there, in that considerable amount of folkloric / mythological dragons you have a great potential gold mine when looking for inspirations to work with ... I would also mention Tiamat.

Wah, do you love Orochi ?.
That is a little unexpected.
It also allegedly had some influence on the creation of King Ghidorah: V
I would definitely like to see an illustration of the Balaur or Tiamat from you someday.

I agree with you again.
I have also seen some interesting representations of Orochi floating around on DeviantArt and on the Internet, although very few seemed to me to do the character justice, considering that many of those pieces were more of his battle with Susanoo than in Yamata No Orochi proper.
Although I feel that his best representations are those which paint him green and with both dragonian and serpentine features.
Did you know that supposedly also the Romanian Balaur was influenced by the Greek Lernean Hydra?

Well, regarding that, have you heard before talking about the "HeiseiOrochi" used in the Toho movie called Yamato Takeru from 1994?
It is one of the most recent representations of the mythological Japanese beast and possibly the sea of your liking that design when looking to make a work around it.
Well, actually, the Greek hydra is barely mentioned a single time on the Balaur's wikia, although they also made references to "Slavic Dragon" and "Zmeu" towards the end.

Well, try searching for "HeiseiOrochi" and you will see what I mean.
Exactly, these multi-headed things seem to be distributed strangely throughout much of Eurasia for some reason, especially if we also take into account Chinese and Korean dragons even when the latter do not have wings unlike other types of dragons to the that we are all used to.
