Description And so, here is another animation. The goal of this one was was still learning how to animate to dialogue, except now I'm working with muzzles and beaks. The two characters were designed in my character designed class, and I animated them for my animation class. Like the last assignment, I had to animate a scene based on a clip of dialogue from a film/show. The dialogue clip I used is from Batman Forever, one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies.

And with this I end another year of my animation program. It's been a lot of fun doing character animation, and this year has been a hell of a bumpy ride. For now I'll probably be switching gears a bit and focusing on 3D modelling/character animation.

I realized it after the i read the description.

I was saying to myself...

"This movie looks awesome. Serious introspective dialogue and wacky space cowboy anthropomorphic characters? Why have I never watched this before?"

I want to animate aswell, how did you learn? I'm really serious about it and I have no clue...And have you gotten hired by anyone?

Yeah, it is kind of a fun movie in it's own weird way . To answer your question, so far all of my professional work has been freelance or short contract jobs. At the moment I've never worked at a studio, but tat will hopefully be changing shortly as I start a co-op program in a few months. I go to school for animation so that is how I learned it. If you want to learn it then really it's just a matter of practice, and there are book by Richard Williams and Preston Blair that are very helpful.

Well done there! I like the amount of effort that went into all of the gestures, from exaggerated to subtle. Looks very professional, even at this early stage!

Very nice use of body language, particularly for the villain. Personally, I think Jim Carrey's hip thrust at "sexual fantasies" would've worked well here too. Well done.

AlexanderHenderson In reply to atlantart [2012-04-23 16:49:34 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I actually debated working in a hip thrust, but I couldn't think of a way to make it work with the rest of the action and the layout, and ended up just leaving it out.

brilliant work! would you mind telling me what you used for this animation media wise? Im i'm attempting to get into animation but im not sure where to start, other than simple things like simple sticky-note pad animations (like bouncing balls or exploding hearts).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AlexanderHenderson In reply to Arorea [2012-04-22 16:52:56 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. This was done using traditional mediums. All of the art was drawn on to animation paper with col-erase pencil crayons. To composite it as a film, I used a program called Flipbook, and shot all the animation with a line tester.

This is excellent, really smooth and well done from beginning to end!

I have to say, I think Val Kilmer and Jim Carrey's voices go quite well with these two.

AlexanderHenderson In reply to astralfenrir [2012-04-21 17:48:49 +0000 UTC]

Thank you again. And yeah, I agree that they fit pretty well. I picked this movie because a lot of the dialogue was really over the top and animated, so the fact that their voice matched up was jst icing on the cake.

Robo-Shark [2012-04-21 07:45:04 +0000 UTC]

Dude the lipsync looks great! I feel like a bit of the acting could be pushed a little more when it comes to exaggeration, but this is really spot on! Excellent stuff!

AlexanderHenderson In reply to Robo-Shark [2012-04-21 17:55:15 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, I'm glad you like it. I agree about the acting thing, I do feel it could be pushed farther. But then again, animated acting is one of those things that can pretty always be taken farther.

It wasn't up to par. You're better trained. Though, I'm taking an animation course now on the side. Got a lot to do and want to do something for the 11-second club.
