Description
This is a new alien I brainstormed on the fly. I call it a Triscuttler and am imagining it as an inhabitant of one of the Trappist-1 planets (which I have made a landscape piece of in the past).Though not fully sapient, Triscuttlers are highly social animals with intelligence comparable to orangutans. They have a radial symmetry that divides into three fin-like limbs that further split into three appendages connected by webbing. An ambitious species, they breath through a combination of internal gills and respiration through their skin. Much like cephalopods on Earth, each limb has it's own neural clusters that acts like a miniature brain to help gather more information and control the chromatophores in it's membrane. The skeletons of the Tricscuttlers are cartilaginous to allow flexibility and is able to provide support on land do their home planet's lower gravity. They are ambush hunters of small organisms, clawing across the ocean floor using their chromatophores to hide their appearance and sneak up on prey. Once in range, they use the barbed tip of their fins' middle appendage to impale prey then bring it to their mouths (though most is brought back to collective stores on the surface).
As always, comments and critiques are welcome.
