Description

The faces of her mate, her daughter, her friends, and her family contorted into horrifying beings with no names. They were just vicious shadows now. No familiar faces were in the crowd.

She had been marked for death since the day of her birth twenty years ago, and had agreed to it, but now? Now she wanted nothing more than to run. These monsters were going to watch her be slaughtered, and she would have no part in it. They were selfish, they all deserved to die for trying to convince her to willingly sacrifice herself. She had been blind, they had raised her like a lamb for the slaughter, and what's worse? That lamb had accepted it! That very thought made the already thick knot in her stomach, tighten. Even her name held no hope. Alik rem ezca, born to die, that very fact had plagued her all her life. She did not choose to be the guardian, she did not choose to have her innocence taken, she did not choose her path in life at all! Everything had been forced upon her up until this point, but that was about to change.

The familiar eyes of an old enemy were blazing with hate, and a lust for blood. Asmerith, once her best friend, was now happily awaiting her demise. She could almost feel those fangs upon her throat, and shuddered.

"And so it comes down to this!" The silver female cackled, but those in the crowd bowed their heads. They were all cowards, and Alikrea hated them for it. Her eyes narrowed, but she did not grace that creature with a remark. She was too lost in her own thoughts to even come up with something clever. The voice of the other female had become muffled, as her mind deafened her. This wolf wanted to draw out her death for as long as she could, and that sent a chill down the guardian. She hated pain, and yet, she had endured so much of it, for the mutts in that crowd. She wanted a quick death, clean, and quick. A sharp bite to the throat would end her existence, but she knew she would be begging for her death until the very end. Asmerith wanted her to suffer.

She snapped back to reality as claws dug themselves into her face, instantly taking the sight from her right eye. The force of the blow sent her crashing into the grass beneath her.

"Say something, damn you!" The voice was Asmerith's, clearly her silence had annoyed the other wolf. The pain was unlike any she has ever dealt with in her life. She wanted so badly to get up and tear her attacker's throat out, but she couldn't move. She just lie there, watching with her good eye, as a pool of blood soaked into the earth around her head. She had never seen so much of her own blood spilt like this. It was horrifying. After she watched the crimson liquid for what felt to her like an eternity she found her voice.

"And say what? You've won, Asmerith, good job. I hope you enjoy burning in hell for all eternity. You've become the exact being you've feared all your life. You've become Calix. You're a murderer, just like her" She felt numb as the words escaped her, but it was pretty clear they had impacted Asmerith. The silver wolf had backed away and was shaking her head, repeatedly saying, no.

"Am I wrong, Asmer?" She asked mockingly. Alikrea wasn't afraid to admit she enjoyed seeing this weaker side of her killer. And she knew using that nickname was another blow to the female before her. She gave what would be a hint of a smile, at the fearful look in the eyes of her cousin. If she was to die in this moment, she would die with a fucking smile on her face. She refused to beg. The red eyed wolf had sat there for a long while, frozen in thought, then lifted her head to reveal the most wicked of grins.

"You're right, Ali, I am just like Calix. And y'know something? I don't give a damn. I've been weak for far too long, and now I have the chance to destroy what made me weak in the first place. Dear cousin, you've babied me for so many years, but I'm not that cub you remember. She died the night you vanished, and left her all alone" there was a look of pure insanity in those red orbs now. As she smiled her fangs almost seemed to glow, as the shadow of the blood moon soaked her coat in crimson. Alikrea slowly got to her paws, forcing the pain in her eye to go numb so she could focus. She was far from an equal match to this monster now, but she wouldn't go down with her tail tucked. She was a royal, an alpha. It was in her blood to fight. Without a second thought she leapt at her opponent, fangs agape, and as soon as she had reached her target she snapped her mouth shut. Asmerith had moved, just enough to escape the killing blow, but her fangs had been buried deep within her shoulder. The red liquid poured hot down her throat, as the screams of the wounded beast filled her ears. The silver wolf forced her darker cousin off, as she yowled in agony. Alikrea skidded away, her own maw shaped with a twisted smile now. She chuckled and panted, paying no mind to the deep scratches she had just received. This was her moment to run, Casen had readied all she needed, and stashed it not far off. Life would be far from easy after she left the world to fend for itself, but she didn't care. If she was alive, then that was enough for her. The world could burn for all she cared. She forced herself away from her thoughts and made a sharp turn, ready to leap over the crowd. She used all her strength to kick off and as she flew above them all, it was as if time had nearly come to a complete stop. Freedom was just within her grasp, and it felt surreal. Then all at once it had been snatched away.

Her right hind leg had been caught by the fangs of her damned cousin, and still in slow motion, her body slammed into the earth. Her front legs had been outstretched so her ribs took most of the impact. Pain shot all through her, but the worst of it was from her leg, that was still in Asmerith's jaws. The sharp snap of her bone was a clear indication that her leg had been broken. In the next instant time returned back to normal, and she was thrown about like a rag doll. With each toss the teeth, rocks, and anything else that struck her leg, left more deep wounds. Finally the beast let go and sent her flying spine first against the trunk of a tree.

The pain was far too much now, and she couldn't stop the tears from flowing down her face. She sobbed, and begged the approaching wolf, with pathetic babbling, to stop. Alikrea forced herself to look to her crippled leg, and nearly vomited at the sight. The limb lie a twisted and broken mess of gore, with the white bones peeking through. It didn't even look like a leg now. This was it. She would die like this, her dreams of freedom were just that, dreams. She closed her good eye and quietly said a prayer to her god.

"Good and kind, Ishtai, I beg forgiveness. I was a pathetic guardian and brought shame upon your name" she whispered.

"Let my killer be merciful and end this. I can't take anymore. I'm done fighting. I will let my blood heal this earth. Just... Please take me home, I want to see mom again" her purple eye, with gold at its center, slowly began to close. Her entire body had gone numb, and everything was getting dark. She could only watch as the paws of Asmerith slowly approached, but she didn't care. She was dying, and it felt good. As more and more of her blood soaked the earth, and she slipped further into the darkness, all her fears began to drift away. It was peaceful, and everything was growing quiet. The desperate cries from the crowd were only muffled whispers now. Upon her neck the necklace she had worn since she was a child began to flicker, it's glow dying, just as she was. It didn't have a scratch on it, but was stained with her dark blood.

"Hey... Seeker..." She called to the gem weakly.

"We had a good run, eh? But now we can both go home. Mom is waiting, I can hear her calling. I know you're weak too, but can you do me one last favor? Come out of the gem, and keep me company. I don't want to die alone" the gem glowed only a little brighter as the bluish wolf stepped out of it. Her body showed no wounds, and yet she was not far from death. Her three green spines, which stuck out of her blue green mane, were cracked, and her once healthy body, looked dull as the life spilled from the guardian. She gave a sad smile before curling her body around her friend, and lying her head ever so gently upon her broken body.

"Alikremezca, you've made us all so proud. You can rest now, all the wickedness on this planet will die with you" the black and gold wolf returned the weak smile, and closed her eye, waiting for her mortal form to give up its fight.

The next thing she saw shocked her above all else. It was a light so pure and bright, which she believed to be heaven, but the wolf standing before her was not her mother, but Casen. Her ears struggled to make out the words she was yelling, and then it finally hit her.

"Run!" The Searcher cried out as she pushed all others away with her blinding light. But Alikrea didn't move, she just stared at her friend with a confused look upon her face.

"Are you deaf? Go! I'm not going to let you die, Ali. Please get up, just go!" The guardian had gotten to her feet by some miracle and before she could even comprehend it, she had sprinted away. She used what little energy she had to heal her wounds enough, but something was wrong. The moon was covered by a deep black shadow, it was an eclipse. The moon had nearly completely vanished from the sky, leaving her to escape into nearly pitch black. Soon the weather began to change, it wasn't winter and yet she could see her breath, and the grass below her paws began to turn brown. Leaves fell off the trees at a rate that was far from natural. And then something caught her attention enough to stop dead in her tracks. Snow. There was snow falling, and sticking to the earth, covering the now dry grasses.

As she stopped she started to feel the extent of her injuries. Her bones had mended for the most part, however she was still in pain. Her healing would usually have healed her completely, very rarely even leaving scars, but she still had wounds. Blood was still pouring from her leg, and her eye was still blind.

"This is wrong..." She muttered, before sitting down a moment to gather herself. She had just run from her fate, and now the world seemed to be fading. Not only was the earth suffering, but also her powers. It couldn't just be that she was weak. This had something to do with her betrayal. She didn't want to be blind and crippled any longer and used all the power she could gather, to heal her two main injuries. They began to burn to the point she had to stop. Healing felt worse than the injuries themselves. She saw a blue glow coming from her leg, and was shocked to see that some of the cuts had turned blue and were glowing. This had never happened before. They looked like they were stuck mid healing, and still hurt like hell. Light also reflected from her face to the snow, giving a light blue hue to the white snow in that spot. Her eye must have suffered the same fate as her leg. It refused to heal. This was a punishment from the gods. Now she understood.

The slow footfall of another wolf snapped her attention away from her injuries. She shot around and snarled, but bent her ears back at who she saw.

"Javik? Brother... W- why are you here?" The golden wolf, with patches of black, sighed.

"Ali, I know you're scared. I can't even begin to understand what going through this is like. Look at you, missing an eye, a crippled leg? Look familiar?" She understood what he meant. He was born with a crippled front leg, and their aunt had ripped one of his eyes to pieces when he was younger. She gave a single nod, her hackles coming down as she calmed further.

"You were a princess, Alikrea, never meant to be a queen, but is that so bad? I can tell you life with such disabilities isn't easy. I would imagine it would be even less so while being hunted down every moment. I don't want to lose my sister, but I also don't want the world to fall apart because of you" her eye narrowed staring right at his blue orb.

"What are you getting at?" She growled.

"Come back, Ali. Fulfill you destiny, and I'll grant you a death by my fangs. A quick one, you won't feel anything. You've suffered enough because of Asmerith. Let me help you, sister" his words were like daggers. He would be willing to kill her? Even if it were an act of mercy she refused to die, especially at the fangs of her brother.

"Go to hell..." She curled her lips back into a vicious snarl. But he was unfazed.

"Look around you, Alikrea! Do you not see what you're doing by being a coward?! You're damning the innocent to a life of agony! Come with me, or I'll force you to..." Her brother was one to talk about being brave. He was the damn coward. All through his younger years he needed his sister to protect him.

"Shut your maw, and leave me be. You call me selfish, and yet, not yourself? You want to live happy lives, but you're willing to toss away the life of another to do so. You say I'm damning the innocent, so does that mean I'm not innocent? I'm a mother, to a beautiful daughter, and you'd take her mother away just so you can live in peace? I have suffered far more than just this night for every single one of you, every single day of my life was never my own. I gave my blood more days that just this night, I bled for all of you more than once, I lost children for all of you, but I'm the selfish one? Heh... I must be. Otherwise my brother wouldn't be trying to play the hero. I am selfish, and y'know? I'm glad I am. I hope you all suffer, and I hope you curse my name. The guardian has fallen. Alikremezca shall be feared and hated from this day on. Spread the word" her tone was dark, and numb. Once she finished speaking she turned around and started to walk away. A few hours from this point is where Casen had hid her weapon, and armor, so all she had to do was continue on. She heard the crunching of snow and before she could turn around, Javik had snapped his teeth onto her tail. She yelped and stared back at him.

"Let go!" But he just narrowed his eye in response and began to pull her back toward the kingdom.

She used all the strength she had to pull in rebellion and winced as he dug his fangs deeper into her tail. This brutal game of tug of war continued on, and on until the male got the upper hand. He knocked her off balance and pulled as hard as he could, dripping blood into the freshly fallen snow. She let out a sharp yelp in protest, and got to her paws again pulling away as hard as she could. The sick sounds of bones snapping, and flesh being torn filled the early morning. With one final crack she was sent flying forward, face first into the snow, and her brother was sent in the opposite direction. She got to her paws quickly and bolted ignoring the pain of her fresh wound. With one final glance back she saw Javik staring sadly back with the still dripping tip of her tail in his mouth.

Her mind went blank as she tried to shake away what had just happened. Her paws just carried her on and on, until she came upon a hollowed out tree where she saw her spear. As she approached her leg armor, and bandages came into view as well. She desperately wrapped the worn bandages around her wounded leg, and it quickly soaked them in dark blood. It was the best she could do for it. Next she placed the spiked armor on her front legs, partially  covering her mark of rebellion, a tattoo which once meant the world to her.

In her weakened state lifting her front legs with the armor on was a task in and of itself, but adding her leg to the equation made it miserable. But she pushed on, knowing that if she were attacked, she would be protected. Her spear, now in her jaws as she looked into the sky. Dawn had finally broke through, the sky which turned a pinkish red hue, like blood staining the snow. She stood staring forward into the open field, now covered in snow. There were no tracks, just the tips of dead grass that poked through. A dead tree in the distance was the only thing that kept the wolf company. Alikrea let out a long sigh as she crumbled, sobbing.

What had she done?

__________________________________________________________________________

Wow! This is finally finished! I am so happy with the end result. Anyway, onto some info about the drawing.
The character is named Alikremezca, or Alikrea for short. She is the main character in my novel in progress, Reign of the Guardian, as well as a large part of the RotG group. I will be posting some writing to go with this image later on, which will explain just about everything in the drawing. The blue on her leg are not markings, they are cuts. Her tail is jagged because the tip of it was torn off, hence the blood. One of the features of my art app is currently busted so I'll add in proper shadows once it's fixed. Anyway, I really hope you guys like this. I worked really hard on it ^^

I have small snips of it in my gallery if you're actually interested. Keep in mind they're old, most were written outta boredom, and all that. But you'd probably have to do some digging, I've not posted any snips in a while.
