my best work...
i wanted to make something realistic and stylized at the same time. probably slightly inspired by the unbelievably awesome vinland saga.
its supposed to be a girl but because of the strong close-up and stylization i can't tell anymore...
i used a reference for the basic form of the helmet, but the ornaments and everything else is created by me.
full view please... or you'll regret for the rest of your life XD

Vinland Saga is a good thing to be influenced by! I love the details on the armor all the little dents and pieces that make it just come off the page. :'

thanks! i like blending different cultures so i guess the armor can be considered a kind of amalgam of greek, aztec, germanic, etc. elements. it was quite fun XD .

watercolors are a bit of a pain to work with, haha (since there's no ctrl+z button XD), but they have this irresistible charm that makes you wanna use them again and again

And there, nearly two months after I said I'd give you a comment...IMMA BACK!
Now, where to start?
First I must say that the whole "realistic but stylized" attempt was most sucsessful. You even did so without drawing in the thypical "super-hero style" which you can find in for example Watchmen and Deardevil (I personally think those drawing styles are the defination of realistic and stylized, but I'm too young to be considered correct).
I'm impressed by the armor's and helmet's design. You go such into detail, and yet you stay true to original helmet's basic form. Your way of turning things into your own is wonderful to witness.
The colouring is in a class of it's own. How you managed to use paint and still keep the lines so clean is beyond my imaginaton. Your way of shadowing is well done and gives the painting the right 3D effect, and every colour seems to be fitting for it's use. The best coloring job you did on this painting is in my option her eyes. Even though she's not looking directly at the viewer her gaze is digging it's way into ones soul. They're so full of life, anger and will to fight! (I'm a sucker for strong woman...)
The background is good, it keeps the girl in focus but still gives a clear picture about what's happening behind her. I know it's basic, but did you use a reference for the background (yes, I'm not afraid to ask immensly stupid questions)? It's like I have seen something really similar somewere else. Or maybe it's just me with a tricky memory...
The only thing I dare to suggest is to give the girl longer hair. It's true it's hard to see her girly form with the helmet and all, so maybe some strands of long hair (visible around her neck area) would do the trick. But I don't think it really matters...
So in conclution I must say, this is beautiful. Just beautiful!
