Description
Hey if you’re not tired of all the eclipse posts in every other corner of your life, here’s one more!
Eclipses aren’t just cool to view - they also give scientists a small window of time to study things. Many animals shift to nighttime behaviors, only to reemerge a few minutes later when the sun returns. Temperatures can drop up to 20 degrees. Most importantly, the Sun's corona becomes visible - normally it is difficult to study because its light is weak compared to the rest of the Sun. With the Moon blocking the Sun, scientists can make observations about the corona and try to understand the coronal mass ejections that can knock out satellites and power grids.

tbh it makes me profoundly sad, even though I certainly won't be around to experience it and even though the planet itself doesn't care.

Yes!! I drove down to South Carolina. It was stunning.
Traffic, though...traffic was less stunning.

Ah - was in Idaho - no traffic at all (Boise to Stanley) and no traffic coming back -until we hit the parking lot - 2-½ hours to go 6 miles - but other than that -not bad at all.

Eeeee, I'm driving up to Idaho to go and see this and stuff, I'm so psyched! ^.^ Also, "syzygy," I am definitely going to have to try and use that in my next scrabble game. x3 Thanks for sharing another science fact!

I'm constantly impressed at these lovely nuggets of information I heard the word Syzygy but I had no idea that was the meaning of it, and I really hope to be able to see a solar eclipse again before it's too late (although I suppose I may have some time for that XD)

If your profile is accurate you're in Europe, right? There'll be one in several western European countries in 2026!

Nice! Hope you get to see it. I'm already planning on seeing the next US totality in 2024.

Very nice! I did read much on the drifting of the moon but I had no idea it would be so far that a total solar eclipse would not be able to occur much. Just makes you imagine if the rarity of a total eclipse on land was a bit more common. (of course what I mean is before the existence of humans, probably the age of the dinosaur ) I don't remember where but I remember reading that if you would want to see an eclipse at your location it would occur ever 2,000 or so years (i believe). I absolutely can not wait for it to occur XD sadly I will not be a to see a TOTAL eclipse, but fortunately I will be able to see a partial eclipse ^.^ Very nice thank you for the info!

Hope you enjoyed your partial eclipse! c: The totality was AMAZING.
If you're willing to travel, there'll be another totality in the US in 2024! I'm already planning on being there lmao.

Yes I enjoyed it very much;a very nice experience!
If I still live where I am I should be right in the path of totality 7 years from now
